I do a lot of traveling, so my handhelds have always been the game systems I inevitably end up spending the most of my time with. And while I love my PSP and GBA, the Nintendo DS is undoubtedly my favorite platform for gaming on the go. With over one hundred games in my DS library, I have a lot options to choose from when deciding what makes my list of the Greatest Nintendo DS Games of All-Tiime. After much thought on what should be put on and where each game should be placed, I've assembled a list that I can sincerely say is made of the Nintendo DS's greatest games.

This next statement may surprise you, but believe me when I say it surprises me even more. The World Ends With You was my favorite game released in 2008. Initially, my enjoyment came as a surprise, but Square Enix's latest epic only became more fun as I ventured further through the story. It's definitely not for everyone; there's a pretty big learning curve involved if you want to master the games various systems and mechanics. Once you get the hang of it, though, you'll find an experience that is truly like no other. The story is intriguing and unlike anything else in gaming, the gameplay takes full advantage of the DS, using both screens, touch controls, and the d-pad all at once, and provides a lot variety and customization unmatched on the handhelds. If you can handle a game as different as this, you owe it to yourself to play The World Ends With You.
Yeah, it's a remake, but when it's a remake of one of my favorite games of all-time, I'll let it slide. In all honesty, this would have been number one if it wasn't just the same game with a slight increase in content. Anyway, for those of you who've played Chrono Trigger before, the same game you know and love returns on the DS. The thing that surprised me the most about Chrono Trigger wasn't it's new script, which is amazing, but rather how well the combat has held up. Seriously, this is still on of the best turn-based RPGs available, and certainly the most fast-paced. Even the presentation still holds. If you like a good RPG, you have to play Chrono Trigger. If you already have experienced this masterful adventure, you need to play it again on the DS just to remind yourself why the game was so amazing back in the SNES days.
While you'd think the 3-D GTA titles offered on the PSP would be the better games, Chinatown Wars' return to the top-down perspective is superior to Liberty City and Vice City stories in nearly every way. The formula may have undergone a lot of changes, but the result is a more handheld-friendly game. The story may be a bit more silly and a lot less interesting than the console titles, but the result is a game specifically for the DS, and this is evident throughout the experience. Liberty City is massive, the touch controls work great, the drug dealing mini-game is super addictive, and the comic-book style graphics among the DS's best. The six or seven hour main story understandably isn't on par with the console entries, but there's still plenty to do after the credits role.
