Weird year for games, but weird year all around. I somehow managed to get a PS5, and I am looking forward to catching up on Play Station games I missed since launch. My dreams of upgrading my graphics card will have to wait, but even with a lack of blockbuster games this year, there was still so much to play, I don't have anything to complain about. In fact, there is a lot to celebrate!
I've tried to ensure that at least the top ten games on this list were released in 2021, but after that, I listed any game I played for the first time (or played a ton of) in the past year, regardless of release date.

Given how much I have loved multiple entries in this series, I suppose it isn't surprising how much FH5 resonated with me. Relaxing, joyful, silly, and at times almost meditative--this was my go to stress-reduction game in late Fall and Winter. Can't wait to continue playing next year and see what the expansions look like.
Like FH5, Hitman is comfort food, and damn if the third iteration is not rad as hell. I especially loved some of the more creative missions and mini-narratives the developers produced this time around.
My appetite for shooters has decreased every year since I was about sixteen. At this point, I am not even interested in checking out Call of Duty or Battlefield at all. Halo, though, is a bit different, thanks to its sci-fi world building and lack of "gritty realism." Even so, I was surprised how much I enjoyed getting into the multiplayer, something I rarely do. I only scratched the surface of the campaign, but even so, Halo deserves a spot on my list.
