1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Superb pacing and interesting puzzles kept me captivated start to finish. Easily one of the most satisfying experiences of the year.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

2. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Dumb fun. Lots of it. Yeah, it had its share of problems, but no other game had me uttering "awesome" under my breath every few minutes of playtime.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

3. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

Consistently good story telling that weaves in a particular game mechanic that gives the narrative an unforgettable tactile feel and a meaningful conclusion that stays with you.

Grand Theft Auto V

4. Grand Theft Auto V

Maybe not my favorite in the series, but this game had moments of true brilliance.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

You get to be mayor!

Rayman Legends

6. Rayman Legends

Yeah, it doesn't do backflips over the previous entry, but it has tighter handling and is gorgeous.

Tomb Raider

7. Tomb Raider

A surprisingly good reboot. Yeah, it has its problems--namely forcing the player to kill hundreds of baddies--but step in the right direction for a long flagging series.

Skulls of the Shogun

8. Skulls of the Shogun

Solid strategy, decent humor, and fun.

Super Mario 3D World

9. Super Mario 3D World

Superb. This would have ranked higher on my list if I had played it more!
