The Games That Ate My Life

A list of games that I spent too much time playing when I should have been doing important things like eating.

Showing 1-10 of 10 items

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

What is wrong with these people? How do you design something this big and sprawling? What the hell?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

What I said for Oblivion, only more so.

Mass Effect

3. Mass Effect

Of all the open-world-moral-choice-a-thons of the past few years this was truly the most damatically effective in it's story telling and severity of the choices made. I will never forget the moment, when confronted with a female news reporter asking very pointed questions, being given the conversation option "shut her up", and thinking shepherd would just deliver a bit of agressive dialogue and bow out gracefully.Oh no! how about punching the bitch out on live intergalactic television? Not the expected result but just one of the many awesome consequence of choosing to be an immoral badass in the world of Mass Effect. Also the plot is massively compelling, sprawling and hugely original. What a game.

Fallout 3

4. Fallout 3

Essentially The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion with guns and a post-apocalyptic sci-fi twist. Bloody brilliant but be prepared to miss births, birthdays, marriages, christening and funerals. Then get the DLC and check yourself into a nursing home.

Fable II

5. Fable II

I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors I must open all the demon doors... Also you can sacrifice your wife.

Dead Space

6. Dead Space

I finished this game at least ten times and shall play it again, Perhaps that says more about me than about the game but i just can't stop it with the strategic dismemberment and they won't let me stop, every time i finish it they put me back at the start with all my awesome guns and i just can't help myself, please help me, I'm trapped...

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

I finished this game many many many times and still say it is the greatest RPG of all time, undisputed. Final Fantasy never had a chance.

The 11th Hour

8. The 11th Hour

A truly horrible experience but not because of the "atmosphere". The puzzles were massively frustrating but i just couldn't stop going back and trying to solve them. Mainly masochism. I would recommend this game only to my enemies. truly awful.

Final Fantasy VII

9. Final Fantasy VII

Mako Reactors? What? Filled with nonsense but strangely compelling. And loooong.

GoldenEye 007

10. GoldenEye 007

I spent so much time playing this game that nobody wanted to play me in the multi-player anymore because it was "boring being killed all the time". Not a boast, more an illustration of my psychotic obsession.
