Stardew Valley

1. Stardew Valley

In Pelican Town each day (roughly 13-14 minutes) is full of possibility, and there's never enough time to do everything. There's something that feels so special about this one man labour of love by Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone. As it's lain fallow and I move on to other pastures, I shall always have fond memories of my time in Pelican Town.

Factorio

2. Factorio

I dream in belt transport systems. Great game to play whilst dealing with anxiety attacks.

Inside

3. Inside

Adsorbing from start to finish. Where some titles are awkward and heavy-handed in their exposition, Playdead are the masters of subtly and ambience. They took everything good about Limbo (2010) and mushed it into something brilliant.

XCOM 2

4. XCOM 2

I was sceptical about the addition of the turn timer before playing XCOM 2, but it proved to work well within the formula. The new story direction (that you failed to repel the invasion in XCOM: Enemy Unknown) gives scope for fresh gameplay mechanics.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

5. Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

Shadow Tactics wears its influences on its sleeve, harking back to turnless tactical games of the late 90s/early 2000s. If that's your thing then this is a sure-bet. Super good puzzle-like tactical game.
