Games I seriously underestimated

This is where my skeptical attitude helps me.  Occasionally there will be a game that I didn't expect to be awesome, and it proves itself to be awesome, and it's like playing games for the first time.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4

1. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4

I never would have guessed that a game like Persona 4 would have such amazing storytelling and presentation.

Chrono Trigger

2. Chrono Trigger

I skipped this game in favor of Earthbound, luckily I had a friend who picked up CT to show me what I was missing.

Gears of War 2

3. Gears of War 2

The game so completely turned around the single player experience of the first Gears in practically every way. This is the sort of turnaround I want to see more often.

Valkyria Chronicles

4. Valkyria Chronicles

Even though the game piqued my interest when it was first announced, I wasn't convinced the game actually was special for a good while. The demo, in fact, made me think the game was worse than it turned out to be. When I finally put some good time into VC, I came to realize the game was better than I could have possibly imagined.

Peggle

5. Peggle

It only took playing Peggle to realize how amazing it is.

QIX

6. QIX

Isn't this a simple concept? Doesn't look like much does it? That's where you're wrong! This game proved itself by being a game I went back to time and time again over the years. It's up there with Tetris.

Assassin's Creed

7. Assassin's Creed

The concepts behind AC seemed interesting enough but I thought the game would feel plodding and stale.

Assassin's Creed II

8. Assassin's Creed II

Even though AC1 surprised me, I wasn't prepared for how much better AC2 would be.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

9. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Super Street Fighter IV

10. Super Street Fighter IV

I underestimated how awesome and fun the new characters Capcom added would be to play.
