The STG (shooting game as they call it in Japan) is one of my favourite genres regardless of how bad of a player I am. It's provided me with countless hours of entertainment, fun and challenge - from memorising tricky levels, enemy paterns and power-up usage to mastering some of the most difficult games I've ever played. Once again, I'll be selecting only one game per franchise, so it's got to be entry I had the most fun with!
