Here's a (non exhaustive) list of some of the RPGs I've completed over the many, many years

As far as I'm concerned, the new standard in JRPG (and video game) storytelling. Watch the endurance run videos; should be self-explanatory.
Another great game (with some story-based reservations). Very similar to P4, but more of a niche, hardcore title. The FES chapter is particularly cumbersome. I'd recommend playing P4 first.
Square's best attempt at innovation in some time. This is a decent DS RPG, but a bit overwhelming for a portable title.
Easily my favorite game of this console generation.
This is one of the earliest Xbox DLC packs, but still one of the best ever. 30 hours + and a whole new world of content. This is how to do an expansion.
I didn't play this until after the SNES era, so this one didn't have the lasting classic appeal. However, it's definitely a step forward for the time, and remains a good game 15 years later.
One of the best video game soundtracks ever made. Also, the game had serious replay value, to add to the 40 or so playable characters.
These are more history pieces than anything, for the time, great games, but not much to them now.
The DS remake is the ideal version of this game, but it is a simple, fun RPG.
One of the classic JRPGs, and probably the first "true" modern JRPG, given its deep story elements. Both the original SNES version and DS version are worth playing.
