I played a lot of games, but they weren't all 2013 titles. I've included some of those, in order to make my list a true representation of my year in gaming.
Edit: I deleted Etrian Odyssey and Theatrhythm in favor of BitRunner 2 and Papers, Please. I finally got my new PC, and remembered how great the latter was!

My 2013 GOTY. If you like jrpgs and haven't played this, then I don't know what to say. I bought my 3ds for this game, and it was totally worth it.
A close contender for GOTY, edged out only because it was a wee bit short, and the controls were a little off. Still an amazing game, one that got me back into platformers. I hope it sells enough copies to warrant a sequel, but if not at least my Vita has this amazing game!
I played a whole lot of handhelds this year, but when I was at home I played Demon's souls. This is an amazing game, and I'm only sorry I waited so long to experience it! I liked it so much that I played it 3 times to get the platinum trophy, and then I was sad to move on to Dark Souls.
This game has so much style. The platforming is quite challenging as well!
I spent a good 5 months in my town this year. It's a hard game to explain, but it's just so satisfying to check in on your town each day! The house building mechanics are a little bare to me - usually I love building in games, but I was not compelled here.
Just play it.
I love this game, but I don't know what to call it... sort of a rhythm/platformer/endless runner hybrid?
My first strategy rpg, and the one I would recommend to newcomers. I loved everything about this game, and played all the endings. Please hurry and localize the 3ds version of the sequel, Atlus!
Yeah, it's a 15 year old game, so it has its clunky bits, but I found it a great nostalgia trip (and I had not played it before.)
Stuck with me, in spite of the short length. I haven't played the sequel yet, but I plan to as soon as I get a new PC.
