Games played in 2016

A list of all the games I beat in 2016 or played enough of that I knew I didn't want to finish them. Hopefully each game will have a few comments bout how I felt about them, but I haven't been great at actually getting that done the past couple years.

Undertale

1. Undertale

Completed Neutral Ending Jan 17 While I loved Undertale's story, music, and general tone/mood, the style of combat was very difficult for me and was frustrating to the point where I considered giving up the game several times. I am glad that I finished it, but I am also disappointed that I don't have the motivation to go back and get a true ending. I only need to cover a few more requirements for a True Pacifist ending, but I'm not sure I want to go through the gauntlet of end bosses again. This is one of those games that I wish had an easy mode. I may go back for a true ending, but I think I need a bit of a break first. I was initially concerned that I might regret leaving this game to 2016, but it would definitely not have changed my top 5. I feel good about how that lists stands now. Edited January 30th Finished the True Pacifist ending last week and it was definitely worth going back to this game. It added a lot to the charm of the ending and I was very happy with it. Still love the story, the music, the characters, and still hate the bullet hell.

Regency Solitaire

7. Regency Solitaire

Completed the story mode on Normal difficulty Jan 21st. I heartily enjoyed Regency Solitaire. I was doing some intense work on a course and needed something fun that I could play during breaks. A friend recommended this game to me and I am very glad that I chose to buy it. The game is essentially many rounds of modified pyramid solitaire with a Jane Austen-style romance story. The player travels with the game's heroine, Bella, to a number of locations, playing 10 rounds of pyramid-style solitaire at each place. Successfully clearing all of the cards in each round gives bonus gold, which players can use to purchase permanent power-ups and abilities that serve to both decorate Bella's family home and to ease the game's difficulty a little bit. As players follow Bella, they learn bits of her story as she falls in love and makes a life for herself. This all makes for a good bit of fun, especially for someone like me who enjoys both card games and Jane Austen. I would say that the game's greatest drawback is the ease of replayability, or lack thereof. If the player wishes to go back to a particular round, it's a little tough to remember which is which, and there's only really the game's map to go on. Definitely worth buying on sale!
