A spin-off of the popular Earthsiege franchise, the Tribes sub-series consists of first- and third-person shooters with a heavy focus on both horizontal and vertical mobility. This mobility is facilitated by the use of jet packs, vehicles, and "skiing".

* On 17 March 2009,  InstantAction accounced the acquisition of the Starsiege intellectual property, which includes Tribes. Attached with the announcement are screenshots displaying a browser-embedded port of the first Tribes game. Click here for more information.
 

• On October 23, 2010, Hi-Rez Studios announced that they were the new owners of the Tribes franchise, and were developing a Tribes MMO called Tribes Universe.

• On March 11, 2011, Hi-Rez Studios announced Tribes: Ascend at PAX East.
