Thomas was the protagonist of the film Wheels on Meals (known as Spartan X in Japan), played by Jackie Chan. He is the main protagonist in the Spartan X series of Jackie Chan games, beginning with the 1984 classic Kung-Fu Master, where he must rescue Sylvia from the bad guys.
While based on a Jackie Chan character, the game character's speech synthesis appears to have more in common with Bruce Lee, with the plot and setting resembling his final film Game of Death, suggesting the character may have initially been inspired by Bruce Lee's Game of Death character before being changed to Jackie Chan's Spartan X character. Nevertheless, despite being based on a Jackie Chan character (with Bruce Lee influences), Thomas makes an identity for himself in the video game classic.
Thomas later was mutated into an Irem-original character going by the name of Johnny Thomas; Spartan X 2's backstory indicated that he'd then changed his name to Johnny Spartan.
