Sonja

Sonja is the brains behind Yellow Comet's operations in the field. She excels at using and countering espionage tactics with her improved vision range and obscure HP totals. Her capabilities are among the most difficult to exploit of any CO, leaving her generally weaker than most. This has been improved over time by giving her more abilities that do not rely on Fog of War and she stands as on par in Dual Strike with most of the other COs. In earlier games, however, maps without Fog of War render her mostly useless.

Gameplay Effects

Advance Wars

• Sight radius of all units increased by 1.
• HP totals of her troops are replaced by question marks for enemy players on the map (the total can still be seen in the combat sequence).
• She is unlucky (see below).
• CO Power: Enhanced Vision. All units get another 1 to vision. Units hidden in forests and reefs are revealed. 10% strength bonus for all units.

Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising

• Sight radius of all units increased by 1.
• HP totals of her troops are replaced by question marks for enemy players on the map (the total can still be seen in the combat sequence).
• Counterattacks are 50% stronger.
• She is unlucky (see below).
• CO Power: Enhanced Vision. 3 stars. All units get another 1 to vision. Units hidden in forests and reefs are revealed. 10% defense bonus for all units.
• Super CO Power: Counter Break. All units get another 1 to vision. Units hidden in forests and reefs are revealed. Sonja's units strike first in combat against enemy attackers for 1 turn. 10% strength bonus for all units.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike

• Sight radius of all units increased by 1.
• HP totals of her troops are replaced by question marks for enemy players on the map (the total can still be seen in the combat sequence).
• Terrain defense bonuses are one star less effective against Sonja's attacks.
• She is unlucky, but not as much as before (see below).
• CO Power: Enhanced Vision. 3 stars. All units get another 1 to vision. Units hidden in forests and reefs are revealed. Terrain defense bonuses reduced by two stars instead of one. 10% strength bonus for all units.
• Super CO Power: Counter Break. 2 stars. All units get another 1 to vision. Units hidden in forests and reefs are revealed. Sonja's units strike first in combat against enemy attackers. Terrain defense bonuses reduced by three stars instead of one. 10% strength bonus to all units.
• Tag Team Power Ratings: Sami = 110%, Kanbei = 130%, Sensei = 105%, Lash = 105%, Von Bolt = 90%.

Luck

Every attack in Advance Wars has a dispersion in the damage it deals from 1-10%. For most CO's, this dispersion is always in the positive direction, meaning that an attack could potentially do one more HP damage than the estimated total before combat begins.

In AW1 and AW2, Sonja has an identical but negative dispersion, meaning that her attacks can potentially do up to 10% less damage. In Dual Strike, seeing this penalty as too harsh a blow, Sonja was given a softer penalty that merely puts the dispersion into more neutral territory. She can do from 5% less damage to 5% more damage instead.
