Overview
Ska Studios is based out of Schenectady, New York and has been developing games since 2001. The one man development team was originally known as Totally Screwed Software before putting the name through heavy iterative cycles to wind up as Ska Studios. The studio rose to fame in 2007 when they won Microsoft's Dream-Build-Play contest for The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai which tied for first place out of 4500 entries. The Dishwasher was finally released April 1st, 2009 on Xbox Live Arcade and was the most downloaded Arcade title for 3 of the following weeks.
After The Dishwasher's release, Ska Studios shifted its focus to Xbox Live Indie Games, releasing ZP29K and ZSX4 Guitarpocalypse before releasing the extremely successful I MAED A GAM3 WITH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1 on August 16, 2009.
Current Known Employees
- James "Jamezila" Silva - Founder, programmer, artist, and musician for the majority of Ska Studio's title, James is the most recognizable member of the Ska Studios team, though Gato frequently contests that.
- Dustin "Superdunner" Burg - Hired on December 28, 2009 to be the super-marketing-ninja and maintainer of other awesome things, Dustin is the first paid employee for Ska Studios.
- Michelle "Shelldragon" Juett- Newest Member of the Ska Studios, Michelle is Ska Studios' "Art Unicorn."
- Gato - The often celebrated cat responsible for debugging and maintaining code.
Support of the XNA Platform
Silva and Ska Studios have both been known for their support of the XNA platform. Silva has used his personal blog frequently to express his support for the platform and has done numerous interviews about its success.
On March 3rd, 2009, Ska Studios announced via press release that they had sold over 200,000 copies of I MAED A GAM3 WITH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1, which at the time was the most known sales of any Xbox Live Indie Game.
