The Persona 4 Endurance Run is pretty daunting. It's more than 150 episodes long, a lot of them stretch out for more than an hour long, and it's now been almost two years since it began. Still, the Catherine quick look brought back some fond memories of one of the greatest Giant Bomb features, some users have expressed an interest in rewatching the thing. Crazy, right?
Having already seen it in full twice myself, I feel a little awkward at the idea of going back and watching it alone, so I came up with an idea- I'm going to be rewatching it, and I'll be posting a blog here with the episodes I watched and some thoughts on them. Those who want to rewatch, or who never saw it and feel the urge, why not watch it together? Go back, watch the episodes starting from the first, post new comments and breathe some life into an old, revered part of Giant Bomb history.
Good idea? Terrible? Would anyone be interested in a community revisit of the old ER? Give me your thoughts! If I'm the only one interested, there's no point, after all.
Edit: Enough people here are crazy enough to want to do this. Starting the 9th!

Let's Re-Endure the Endurance Run?

I keep going back to my favourite episodes too often to warrant a full run through again. Really epic though.
This is why I need feedback from people. I hadn't even thought of that being an issue! I still hope people want to watch it again, though.
@Chabbs0:
A lot of people do that, which is why I think it would be good to give the entire run another go-over. Too many of the great moments get glossed over and forgotten in favor of the ones everyone quotes again and again. It's the jokes I didn't remember that made me laugh the most.
A community Endurance Run? I'd do that myself, but I can't really get screen-capturing software to work that well.
I'm entirely too uninteresting to be putting myself on video. I was planning a more low-key blog post, episode discussion, and hit up the old comments section and such. I just figured it'd be fun to bring whoever wanted a chance to watch the ER with other people again.
@Grissefar:
I'm hoping that whoever is stuck in a current viewing will find it more fun with some people to talk about it with again.
I'd watch with you. It would be a good excuse to watch them all again. It would be one episode per day I presume?
When do we start? :P
An episode a day would make sense, but it could also take forever. I don't know how many people would be in for the long haul, although I would totally be okay with it. I was considering, since we were so close to the date when the Endurance Run was first posted, to wait until February 9th and start off there. It's really up to anyone that wants to watch along, though. If people want to start today I'm okay to watch some Persona 4 right now.
@WatanabeKazuma:
Good to hear. Everyone is welcome on the Endurance Run Endurance Run.
Count me in. I'll be watching every day, but we'll keep it to weekdays, right? Like in the original run. This is gonna be fun. I don't know if we should all be posting in this thread, however. Maybe start a blog each and then link to it here in the OP (or in an "official" thread).
A single thread for each episode was my idea, but then again it might become too cluttered. Linked blogs might also be a good idea, but not everyone is going to want to make a blog a day. If you really wanted to be crazy about it, you could watch the episodes only on the actual date that they were originally posted, so skip the weekdays and the E3 related breaks. It depends on what everyone wants to do, so get to deciding and offering ideas, duders!

It just occurred to me though: What are we even going to talk about? "Yo, that part was fuuuunny!" :P I'm sure we'll find something to talk about.
Again, awesome. The more people watching the better.
@JJWeatherman:
I've yet to run out of things to say about Persona 4. With Vinny and Jeff adding to it, hilarious anachronisms from them discussing games they saw at E3 and upcoming releases, the Giant Bomb community in general? I don't think it'll be a problem.
We could also just have someone download and stream the episodes via justin.tv (for example). We'd schedule a time, meet in chat and discuss (or riff on it) live. Someone would keep a log of the IRC chat, then dump (or summarize) it here. What do you say to that? Stupid idea? It might become difficult as to different time-zones, no one could watch episodes at their leisure. So yeah, stupid idea, I guess. I was just thinking about it, because it might very well be the case that the only thing I have to say is "dude, cool" sometimes.
It's not a bad idea, and I'd always thought being able to live-chat on Giant Bomb videos would be great, but the scheduling issues you mentioned are still there. Again, depends on what anyone else would want to do, what's feasible, and if anyone would really feel like uploading the entire Endurance Run to Justin.tv which seems kind of crazy. It'd probably be a lot easier to just meet up in an Instant Messenger of some sort and stream it straight from Giant Bomb itself in that regard. Screening room style, basically.
Edit: Still more fond of the simple blog idea, though, because I learned from the unfinished game of Arkham Horror (that I was enjoying a lot) that we had here on the forums that if you try to do something too complicated it tends to fall apart.
I'd be up for it as long as it doesn't happen between now and next Saturday.
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE THEM BALLS.
EDIT: Forgive my stupidity, I missed the date. Looks like I'll have to put off my replay of P4....
I'm up for it. I never finished the entire ER so it'll be cool to have another reason to finish it off. Let me know you guys start!
@SpikeSpiegel:
We won't be starting until the 9th of next month, and I'll be reminding everyone who said they were interested just in case.
I watch MonoPingo's Best of P4 ER videos, every few months.
It's missing the last 50 episodes but, it's it'll still fucking awesome compilation.
I hope he finishes it at some point.
Excellent.
@CrazyChris:
@Vager:
That's part of the reason I think this is a good idea. Everyone remembers the classics, Funky Student, Mysterious Fox, etc, but plenty of great moments are forgotten entirely when the Endurance Run is brought up. Who else remembers the Five Chambers of Death dungeon when the Wu-Tang clan got thrown in the TV? The constant Hot for Teacher references during the episode Kashiwagi appeared in? The brief time that Vinny and Jeff became convinced that a certain steak loving member of the investigation team was secretly behind the killings?
I might watch the whole thing again come this summer, when I'll have the time to do so. Maybe. But yeah, unequivocally, the P4 Endurance Run is the second best thing on Giant Bomb after the Bombcast.
" @sharma55:I liked the rampant Chie hate and the undertones that she was a lesbian before she became their favourite character.
Excellent.

You're welcome to join in even if you're a few episodes ahead, just try not to spoil anything for people who haven't seen it before. Or should they be allowed since a lot of people are rewatching it? Use your discretion, at least.
@Gabriel:
I don't follow.
" @Make_Me_Mad said:....I think that would be Giant Bomb's situation if they ever decided to be stupid enough to put copyrighted content behind a pay-wall." @Gabriel:I don't follow. "They'll put them up for subs only and you'll be suckin' dicks in the street in no time. "
@punisherkaos:
I'm honestly beginning to get a little surprised at how many people want to watch again. Surprised in the best way, though.
@Infininja:
Hey now, that's a respectable job market that's always going to have an opening.
" I watch MonoPingo's Best of P4 ER videos, every few months. It's missing the last 50 episodes but, it's it'll still fucking awesome compilation. I hope he finishes it at some point. "Glad to know I'm not the only one.
Even watching it through once is kinda crazy when you think about it. I mean, who watches people play games?
Of course, that didn't stop me from watching the Persona 4 one, and both Deadly Premonition ones, and if/when they do another, I'll watch that too.
But I think three times may be over doing it. I mean, there are some episodes that are absolutely amazing, and can be watched over and over again, but I think the whole thing is over doing it.
You're most likely right. Luckily, I'm pretty well on to being insane so a third watch sounds fun to me.
Also, the point of this is to get people who want to rewatch it, or watch it for the first time, to do so together. Bring some of the community aspect back to the nearly two year old Endurance Run, which a lot of people missed out on. I think it's a pretty good idea, myself.
