Same Name, Different Game last edited by PlamzDooM on 05/28/23 03:29PM View full history

    Overview

The English alphabet is only twenty-six characters long, and new games are coming out all the time, which ultimately leads to the phenomena of different games sharing the same title.

This is not the same as when developers make a new entry in an existing franchise with a new game with the same title as the original game in the series, such as the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog game, named after the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog game, or the 2008 Prince of Persia game, named after the 1989 Prince of Persia game. Those games are covered under the "Same Name Reboot" concept.

Games under the "Same Name, Different Game" concept must be completely unrelated, such as the 1983 arcade game Journey, which was themed around the rock band of the same name, the 1989 graphical text adventure Journey, which was a Tolkein-esque fantasy game, and the PlayStation Network game also called Journey, which was released in 2012.
