After shutting off WiFi on like 15 different things in my house (multiple PS3s, a 360, a 3DS, a Wii U, Macbook, iMac, my phone, my tablet, two smart TV's, a fucking printer) I was finally able to get remote play to work, in HD, with the high frame rate. Despite that both the PS4 and PSTV are connected to the hotspot by wireless. No more cut outs or pixelation. But just the slightest bit of lag. Once I get a 75FT ethernet cable it should be flawless. Total 100% turnaround from the first time I remote played on a proper hand held Vita and games were like 240p blurry and a second behind. Now a twitchy game like Rocket League works fine. No different if the PS4 was in the same room.
I only paid $25 for it used at GameStop, so between having occasional remote play, being able to watch Live From PS streams without turning on the PS4, Persona 4 Golden which I got for like $10 on PS+ sales, and having something to play some unique PSP games that were never remade for PS2/3/4, I've got my money's worth out of it.
It is terrible the less than bare minimum work Sony put into it. Like they're making a PS4 Tear-Away, therefore they know how to DO that game without the touch screens. So why not implement the change to the Vita version? As BombCast mentioned, some games didn't even make use of the touch screen and were never given the OK to work with PSTV. Despite having backwards compatibility with PSOne and PSP, some PSP/PSX games aren't available, and not ones that used peripherals either. And despite being advertised as a Roku style device it only does Hulu and Crackle.
Maybe if PSNow turns out okay, and fixes the terrible lag (or America's internet speeds finally increase for the first time since 2001) (50Mbps speeds are actually turbo boots for a second or two for web pages, for things like streaming, my alleged 50meg connection is more like 8Mbps) the PSTV will suddenly be really useful.
