For me, used games were an easy way to get into a franchise that was long in the tooth. Especially something I was curious about but didn't want to pay the full retail price in case I didn't like it. I often saw miniscule price drops for retail versions of franchises that I had an interest in but used games were relatively affordable. Thus, I became a huge fan of Gears of War, Uncharted, Forza, and Bioshock that way. It was my best alternative to buying steam sales for the console world. It's these experiences that lead me to buying the new versions of those franchises on release day because of the appreciation I developed for them.

@blu3v3nom07:

@darson: My tv is a almost bottom tier price, 32 inch Westinghouse 720p set. It was almost the cheapest I could find without getting like a house brand. I.e. Dynex

And I sort of agree with your statement. I wonder how my tv will be affected once everything starts getting to like 4K resolution, and things like that.

Depending on how far away you sit from your television, the human eye has a hard time telling the difference between 720p and 1080p so don't worry about 4k unless you've got a very very large projector. Source: http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/720p-vs-1080p-can-you-tell-the-difference-between-hdtv-resolutions/

Generally speaking, if you sit more than 10 feet away from your TV, and your display isn’t bigger than 50 inches diagonally, you won’t be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080.

I don't watch live TV (except for sports) anymore. Maybe I'm alone in this but I also really don't care about 90% of my cable channels. If I want to watch TV it's going to be a specific show and it's going to be when I want to. Unfortunately, the Xbox One doesn't help me do this better than any devices I already own because it doesn't have a TV DVR. It might eventually but it looks like Microsoft will have a hard time getting that past the cable companies because many of them have their own DVRs that they want their customers to pay for monthly. So until Microsoft can deliver on that front, I can't justify any of the TV perks that the system offers because that simply isn't how I want to enjoy television now and in the future.

If I look at differences we already know about, Microsoft on the losing side of the hardware battle and from the looks of it they might lose developers as well with less interaction and more stringent policies for everyone involved. Thus, until Microsoft tells me more about what the Xbox One will bring to the table with games and development, it seems like an easy choice.

From what I hear Sony is planning on giving the publisher or developer the option to do the used game fee. Hopefully they won't as I won't be buying an Xbox One with the $60 charge for sharing your games if Major Nelson is to be believed. Even now, sharing is a pretty integral experience in playing games with friends as an adult. I can't even imagine my childhood without sharing games with my friends.

Some of my best memories come from a couple friends coming over with their games or sleep overs. Sure, you can login to another xbox to unlock your games but that only works with internet. How many parents want to trust their kids the with the password to the logins either, I suppose strong parental controls could fix that. I dunno, the more I think about it the more I can't support that kind of business strategy for the future of consoles.

We'll miss you real hard Dave. Only thing that doesn't make this too sad is I know we'll still see you around.

@Snail: That isn't farfetched at all. CBS is huge media company. It's entirely possible they would have an issue with Sony or Microsoft considering the device in question is really the future of media centers and the next gen consoles pushed whatever boundaries that are currently set for what a set-top box / console can be. Regardless, I'll always support Jeff and the crew but I really hope CBS loses the lawsuit rather than get emboldened by winning and preventing future innovation with similar cases which might conflict with GB

@pekoe212: The thought process would be that they'd bring jobs to RI and get their money back. It all began when wow was at it's peak and raking in crazy money. 38 Studios sold RI on that concept but nobody knew that the wow model exists for wow alone regardless of the IP. After Star Wars, everyone sees that now (GL Elder Scrolls & Fallout.) 38 Studios shares the blame for overspending on talent and even going as far as to buy their employee's mortgages so they could move to RI and work for them.

You guys are so good at this. Your work with the Hot Spot was so awesome and comprehensive that I think I understood what Jeff meant to everyone when he left the show and it was emotional. Since then, I've been looking forward to everything you guys put out so keep it up!
