I love this game, but this quick look was really weird. I don't know if they strayed past the Dead Zone altogether, but how the hell did they manage to get that far and that deep without at least one Ghost spawning, I could barely last a minute out there without being ambushed. Was really hoping they'd get attacked right at the end just to show off the terror of those moments.
I tried to play Undertale twice. Got about an hour in and bounced off it. I'm cool with letting this be a thing for other people, but I am completely mystified by the hyperbolic reaction to it. I thought it wasn't that fun or funny.
Did you get out of the Ruins? Did you make it to the second boss fight(Papyrus)? If you managed to get through the Papyrus fight without enjoying it then the game probably isn't for you, but the Ruins(the purple tutorial area) is unfortunately the worst part of the game, made two years prior to the rest of the game as an obligation for kickstarter backers, and it shows.
This first time, I didn't get out of the ruins, to be fair. The second time, I remember getting out into some woods or something, and a skeleton guy was there, and there definitely seemed to be a bunch of jokes all of a sudden that didn't really click with me.

I am liking it so far (18hrs in). Not loving it mind you, just liking it. I like some elements of the story and the setting. They're not up to par with the previous games, but they're not unequivocally bad either.
It just feels so unfinished. Everything is slightly broken. The menus, the inventory, the animations, the cut-scenes, quest management, the structure of it. I'm talking to somebody and then I interact with something in the environment and it just cuts off that conversation dead. So maybe I'm missing some great back story or dialogue. But it's gone, because my AI needs to tell me that there's a rock over there I should fucking scan. Sometimes I try to load, and the bar sits on full for 2-3 minutes before loading. Sometimes it never seems to load and just Alt+F4 it in frustration. And then I'm fighting the Kett and that one Kett is just standing there, not shooting anything, like he hasn't properly spawned yet or something.
It all feels like it's 6 months of polish away from being an enjoyable if middling Mass Effect spin-off, but as a main line game today, it's a disappointing mess.
In 2005 I finally bought a Dreamcast off eBay for about £20, and I played Shenmue for about 2 hours before realising it was really boring, and that using the Dreamcast controller is incredibly unpleasant. I'm curious how well it's aged 11 years after that.
