Overview

Plumbers Don't Wear Ties is an erotic, comedic dating sim developed and published by United Pixtures (Company) for Windows PCs in 1993, with a wider 3DO (Platform) release by Kirin Entertainment (Company) in 1994.

Described in the 3DO version as "An Interactive Romantic Comedy", Plumbers Don't Wear Ties tells the tale of two locals, John and Jane, who engage in hijinks after John becomes infatuated with her and Jane ensues a job interview gone sour.

The game is known for its low-quality presentation, where the gameplay simply consists of a very limited selection of menu choices for progressing the plot (somewhat similar to Town With No Name (Game), with multiple alternate endings), most of the game is presented as still photographs, and the short story often becoming nonsensical and borderline pornographic.

The original PC release had a very limited release, and was considered lost media prior to its rediscovery in the late 2010's. This version is uncensored from the start, with the 3DO version locking that content behind a cheat code. The 3DO also remained obscure until video retrospectives in the 2010's, where it is often considered one of the worst games of all time.

It later received an enhanced digital re-release by Limited Run Games (Company) for the PlayStation 5 (Platform), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 (Platform), Xbox One (Platform), Nintendo Switch (Platform), and PC (Platform) (via GOG.com) on March 5, 2024. Known as Plumbers Don't Wear Ties: Definitive Edition, this release includes remastered 4K images, the ability to save games, a bonus gallery mode, and a documentary on the game. Limited Run Games also published a limited-run physical release, as well as a physical re-release of the original 3DO game and a novelization.
