Ultimate Alliance 1 was Raven Software (Company)'s spiritual successor to their X-Men Legends series, now expanded to include all of Marvel's heroes. An original storyline involving Doctor Doom (Character) and several other super-villains served as the driving factor of the heroes' motivation.
With Ultimate Alliance 2, Raven was replaced with a different developer. It is loosly based around the Civil War storyline, with players choosing to support Captain America or Iron Man.
For Ultimate Alliance 3, Team Ninja (Company) was selected to revive the franchise as a Nintendo (Company) exclusive, 10 years after the release of the second game. The first to be made after the Disney accusation of the Marvel brand, it features numerous influences from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Franchise) and more stylized cartoonish art style than the grittier approach to the early games.
