2022 was a tough year for plenty of businesses, and the video game industry was no exception . Workers continue to contend with stifling conditions, and some releases we had high hopes for hobble on broken and disappointing. But we can still sink our teeth into titles old and new that affirm, delight, and empower. Every year , I select the top ten games that I played for the first time and put...

Towards the beginning of this year I made the bold prediction that 2022 would be the year of the Intellivision Amico. And I have held to that belief through the various ups and downs the console has gone through. I believe in the Amico and its potential to revolutionize gaming. Its biggest challenges as a product are that it doesn't exist and nobody would want it if it did, but I think it can o...

This will be a short one...I promise you. Over the past few years, I kind of stepped away from gaming. Not really games but more gaming culture. Just over two years ago I decided to try the Film 365 Challenge, which is where you watch one new movie per day. I kept doing it for just over two and a half years. Now that I'm burnt out with movies, well at least watching movies at home. I want to ge...

Game : Siactro 's Super Kiwi 64 . Release Month : December. Quick Look : Here (Grubb / Jess). Started : 30/12. Completed : 30/12. I first encountered this Marcus "Siactro" Horn character just a few months back when I decided to cover three of his commercially-released games for Indie Game of the Week ( IGotW #284 ). His big thing, as far as I can tell, is recreating the late-'90s golden era of...

I've already completed my picks for GOTY 2022 . I think that you'll find them to be the best choices on this site. All other games are inferior. However, Giant Bomb has surprised us with some list variations this year. So, inspired by the works of Jan and Tam , I will be transforming some games into alternate media as well. I've picked ten games and paired them with their metal track counterpar...

2022 was the weirdest year in wrestling that I can remember. 1. Roman Reigns Acknowledge your Tribal Chief. Acknowledge the Bloodline. It's been crazy seeing this guy's trajectory over the years. Big dawg went from the one person people hated seeing to being the most believable and engaging character in wrestling right now. Steve Austin and John Cena level mega-stars don't exist anymore, but Ro...

As my gaming year ends, I can’t help but think that despite a number of people I listen to in the industry telling me it was a dire year for gaming (admittedly this did seem to drop off towards the end of the year), I was almost continually enthralled and often overwhelmed trying to get to new games, while in quieter periods, getting to some older games that I’d been meaning to. The big thing f...

Pictured: Lil' ALLTheDinos meets Baby ALLTheDinos Last year, my daughter began to notice video games and express preferences on what I and her mother would play. I wrote up a quick ranking while snowed in on New Year's Day, and it was enjoyable enough to do again this year. Of course, this was a huge year for the kid, as she is no longer my only child. Being a big sister is a huge deal, and it'...

Game : FuturLab 's PowerWash Simulator . Release Month : May. Quick Look : Here (not a QL; rather, it's the six-person PowerWash UPF stream). Started : 26/12. Completed : 01/01. 2022's other big Improbable Job Simulator, after the aforereviewed Hardspace: Shipbreaker , was PowerWash Simulator: a game about making things very wet very fast (and yes, I did delete a blue joke about making things w...

Oh Hi, it's me again. Did you miss me? No? Well, too bad. When I'm not playing terrible fucking Sonic games on stream or entertaining a particularly anxious 4-year-old Goldendoodle while his owners are visiting the in-laws, I like to tactics. Here are two more high quality (this isn't me doing a sarcastic bit, I think both of these games are fantastic) video games worth your time if you like he...

In the mid-1980s, software developer Hudson approached platform holder Nintendo with what amounted to a hardware pitch. This hardware would have amounted to a sort of Famicom++, allowing for richer aural and visual experiences than what had been hitherto accomplished on said platform. This proposal was ultimately rejected. However, a certain Japanese electronics company which had already carved...

At some point, I need to call it, when it comes to playing cool games in 2022. I've used December to hold a mad dash of releases I hadn't played, to potentially put on a list. In just these few weeks, I've played Super Kiwi 64 , Immortality , 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim , Triangle Strategy , Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising and Marvel Snap . That's what I could afford, at least. Except for Triangle Strate...

Game : Berzerk Studio 's Infernax . Release Month : February. Quick Look : N/A. Started : 24/12. Completed : 25/12. To me, nothing is more Christmassy than Satanic cults and copious bloodshed. This is my seventh year writing a Game of the Year list and it’s interesting to look back and see what I’ve enjoyed over the years. I don’t know if my taste in games has changed that much but it always surprises me with the variety of games that I have in my top 10. I feel like I played less games this year compared to the past which feels like it made it more difficult to build my list this ye...
