Before the flood of new releases starts up again, I took advantage of this lull period to blast away some of my troublesome backlog. I buy games faster than I finish them. However, the joyous feeling of beating games is ingrained in my psyche. I gotta do it! The three subjects of this post earned starkly tiered responses from me. It’s time to write about games everyone else has already played i...

In internally debating whether I should bother to write a GotY this year, I realized it would be my fifth consecutive year writing these blogs, both on this site and as a whole. Im pretty sure I erased my 2018 one at some point? (And really, if I were to revisit 2018 now I would have much more to say...) But still, this is technically the fifth! Thats about five whole years. It feels so weird t...

Continuing to plumb Game Pass of all its treasures before my free trial wears out, I was pleasantly surprised to find the third and (so far) final game in Sigono 's Opus (or OPUS) series of adventure games with what I'd call some relatively casual gameplay affectations to break up the dialogue and worldbuilding. I have, of course, covered both the previous games in this series albeit in reverse...

What can I say, I have a brand to maintain. 2022 was a big year of change, both in the industry and in my personal life. On the former, the slow trickle of pandemic games began to open up at long last. I ended up playing 35 different games that were released this year, a personal record. The change was not all good, though, as massive layoffs seemed to hit both developers and games media alike....

The idea of doing a top 10 list of games every year makes a lot of sense: it’s a clear, simple way to share our favorite video games from each year. But for many of us, the story of our gaming years is more than 10 games. So, as I have done for a number of years now, my way of telling that story is to “rank the rest” of the games I played from 2022. This gives me a chance to briefly touch on ev...

Book report on Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater by Satoshi Hase The notes yours truly took for this piece were almost 4 years old by the time of writing. They were taken shortly after I played through Resident Evil 2 remake back in April, 2019. By the time this is written, the remake of Resident Evil 4, aka “Leon S Kennedy Chapter 2”, would be out shortly. Many on the internet complained that the s...

Game : DrinkBox Studios 's Nobody Saves the World . Release Month : January. Quick Look : N/A. Started : 03/01. Completed : 10/01. Nobody Saves the World is the latest from Canadian studio DrinkBox, who seems to be one of those restless studios that always wants to try new things. While they have made a couple sequels— Guacamelee 2 and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack —their more recent ga...

Hey Bombarinos. You know what I miss? Caring about the Giant Bomb Wiki. Used to be around this time I'd be filling out or adding every page I could in preparation for AGDQ—no longer a concern of ours, as Twitch now uses a different game database—but it's been a while since I rolled up my sleeves and got to the prickly business of adding release data, snapping a few photogenic screenshots, and m...

2022 was a weird year for gaming. It started very slow but with a few very big releases like Elden Ring but then was relatively calm until late in the year for the holiday season. Also development during the pandemic continued to be a problem as a lot of developers have delayed games into early 2023. The new consoles continued to have somewhat slower sales due to shipping and supply issues, alt...

When I gave an update on Halo Infinite back in August, I described a youthful and energising FPS sandbox but a neglected wreck of a live-service game. At the time, I predicted that it would be a while before the shooter's condition improved. What I didn't guess was that it might get worse. One of Infinite's most hotly awaited features was Campaign Co-op. Those who've tagged along for the rocky...

I think this is probably the furthest I've stretched the definition of "Indie"— Psychonauts 2 is a moderately-budgeted game helped into being by Xbox Game Studios , a decidedly un-Indie publisher—but darn it I've been looking for an excuse to play some more Psychonauts ever since I activated this Game Pass trial. Following from the 2005 PS2 platformer , and also the 2017 VR half-sequel I'm not...

An explanation of what I'm doing here can be found in my introduction post . This time we will look at the games released for the Saturn in the last week of November 1995: High Velocity: Mountain Rac...

A Suggested List for Neon White’s Japanese Dub This is a blog written to celebrate Neon White, a game loved by the “everyone” in 2022. It just so happens that yours truly belongs to this illusory “everyone”. At least in this case. Though it’s not aspects that involve the jump button. “By weebs, for weebs” is practically the marketing line for Neon White, though yours truly do not like the f wor...

Game : Jump Over the Age 's Citizen Sleeper . Release Month : May. Quick Look : N/A. Started : 02/01. Completed : 03/01. Citizen Sleeper was a really pleasant surprise. Prior to playing it, the only things I managed to pick up about it from general cultural osmosis beyond the themes was that it was one of those "hard decisions" type of adventure games, so beloved of Telltale and the like, of a...

A few things to know about this list are that I was very demotivated to play much single player games this year, especially in the back half. The chief victim of this being Horizon forbidden west, and a lot of interesting story based indie games that I otherwise might enjoy a lot. 10. Overwatch 2 This game barely qualifies and only because I needed 10 games to fulfill my own sickness and make t...

Under my TV right now I have a PS5 and a PS4 Pro, which I keep hooked up mostly for PSVR purposes and because the PS5's hard drive is so small I've been playing indie games and other less taxing titles on PS4 just to keep from having to constantly swap. I also have a launch PS4, which has been sitting in a closet for the last 6 years since I got the pro, but that I want to pull out of retiremen...

These are Kone's Tweets of 2022 (according to Twitter Analytics)! Oh, what a year it's been. My artwork(?)/Tweets have been featured on Giant Bomb through The Community Spotlight, Retweeted by the staff, and have even shown up in some of their streams. I'm still waiting for my residual checks from Jeff Bakalar for showing this poster I made every time he plays Eternal Darkness . Just kidding, o...

I like to make gaming resolutions every year. I don't have a great history of actually keeping them but they at least give me something to aspire to regarding gaming for the following year so I don't just aimlessly wander between games I don't really like. It's also fun to look back and see how I did and how my priorities held up. This year I want to keep things pretty simple. Here are my goals...

That's last year now. Imagine that. Now, I struggle to find 10 games worth recognising. Review codes don't tend to provide me with that many bangers so I have a magnificent ... six. 6 - eFootball 2022 If Giant Bomb can rep Fortnite, I can have this at number six. Live services rarely launch well but Konami's free-to-play football sim was broken beyond all recognition. Six months later, whoever...
