I don't mean it's the rarest or least highly regarded, but rather the most difficult to explain. Xevious 3D/G+ is a PlayStation 1 remake of an arcade classic. I picked it up off PSN about 3 years ago and I have played it every few months since then. What makes it weird is that while I had a PlayStation in the 90s I never had, or even knew about, this game. I also have no specific nostalgia for...

[This is the second entry in a countdown of the best Ridge Racer games. I recommend you read the introduction before reading this; it includes a brief history of the series and links for each entry.] Ridge Racer V - Sony PlayStation 2, 2000 Emotion Engines The only interesting unlock is a pretty damn good one: a special Pac-Man Grand Prix which unlocks him as a racer (and each of the ghosts, wh...

Honorable Mentions Sea of Thieves Donut County Dead Cells Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age 10 - Forza Horizon 4 See my list from 2016. Same thing applies. It’s a good racing game 9 - Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 When Call of Duty is good it's real good. The multiplayer is somewhat back to basics. Meaning there's no boost jumps, wall running or side dashes. It's j...

[This is the first entry in a countdown of the best Ridge Racer games. I recommend you read the introduction before reading this; it includes a brief history of the series and links for each entry.] Rage Racer - Sony Playstation, 1996 Real Racing Roots No one knows how the race began or how its drivers became known as Rage Racers. They live dangerously close to the edge; pushing both their cars...

For the end of the year, I originally wanted to do another top 10 like I had done for 2017, but this year hasn't really been the gangbang of incredible games that the past few have been, at least for my tastes. Forza Horizon 4 has been an absolute joy and Konami's Pixel Puzzle Collection has eaten up a ton of my time (and I've yet to get to games I'll probably love like Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Hitm...

Man, 2018 huh? A year in which we came face-to-face with our stupidity and shortsightedness as a species as we edge ever closer to total environmental collapse and the final stages of capitalism, which will see us all thrown to the wolves in due time. But that's nothing to do with video games, right? Bless these little distractions and their soothing bleeps and bloops. (This is facetious politi...

After I started pretty slow on playing games released this year, this list is now coming in hot with a heap of really solid games and some unexpected VR. A few notes: The “And 1” spot is for a game that either might not have otherwise made the list due to a technicality (an expansion, remaster, early access etc.) or just something I think is flawed or rough but wanted to write about anyway. How...

Note: The following article contains major spoilers for Portal. Few video games have an antagonist as memorable as Portal's GLaDOS. Instantly recognisable by her robotic, passionless voice, GLaDOS's indifference to human suffering is as funny as it is chilling. For a video game, Portal gives its antagonist a shocking amount of power over the player character. This villain is not a warlord on a...

This is list is going to be a little different. I found myself taking a lot of photos and videos in video games this year. And as I was thinking of how to do a GOTY list I came to the conclusion that the worlds I escaped to should do a lot of the talking. If you told me at the beginning of this year that I would have put more time into a $10 Destiny 2 DLC than Red Dead Redemption 2. I would hav...

Hey folks. I kind of did a similar thing last year where I listed out my top ten games of 2017 and also included my favorite things about those games. It's all a gimmick because I make the Best Of vidz for the site. Why not add another gimmick where I also talk about the "Best Feel" from those games. OK! Warning: Spoilers! 10. ONRUSH *Deep breath in* Burnout Revenge is the best Burnout game bec...

Welcome, all, to the penultimate episode of Saturday Summaries for 2018. Next week's might prove to be a little light on content given that I'm taking the week off for family holiday stuff (like a wuss), but we should still have a few points of order. Next week I want to cover all I have in mind for 2019 - new blog features and upcoming game releases alike - but I'm dedicating this one last wee...

Preamble: Internet Assholes Are Asking Square To Make Final Fantasy X-3... AGAIN! Oh no, not this shit again. Every two to three months someone on the internet has the gall to ask Square-Enix if they plan to make Final Fantasy X-3. It's a routine I usually dismiss with an eye-roll or audible sigh; however, things were slightly different this time around. Earlier this week, during a live stream...

What happens when you watch Giant Bomb play Rakugakids and decide to do a crossover? This monstrosity. You're welcome, Jeff.

Sorry this poll came so late, too busy thinking about Hellshake Yano Hello there all you lovely Duders! While you have been making Top 10 Game of the Year lists, the denizens and lurkers of your local Anime and Cartoon Megathread have been watching a bunch of Japanese cartoons and are now prepared to rank them in an order, so you know which ones to watch (or avoid, depending on your opinion). W...

Hey! There are unmarked spoilers for the Mass Effect Trilogy below! Doesn't really make sense to hide them since they're kinda major parts of this. Girl, you mean the world to me. Video games tend to make me really emotional. Most of the games that hover around being in my "top ten" have at the very least made me tear up if not outright breakdown sobbing. They've ranged from great epics like Ki...

It might be hard to believe, but indie games 10 years ago were a rarity. Most of the indie scene wasn’t taken very seriously as they were largely “flash games” living on sites like Newgrounds. That all started to change around 2008 when Xbox Live Arcade put a spotlight on the scene with their Summer of Arcade program. Suddenly smaller games were getting more recognition, and it was plain to see...

Fans of the site have obviously debated ad nauseam those hard RDR 2 turns on the Beastcast . Likewise, anyone following the discourse surrounding this game online has probably noticed that while the critical consensus seemed to have Rockstar's latest opus pegged for Game of the Year material, not even a week after the game's release consumer response was much rockier. It's been interesting to w...

Yeah, I'm still at it. Still stealing stuff across many community-created Garry's Mod maps, and still having a ball if you must know. Turns out Jazztronauts is a game best placed in short sessions across many weeks. I won't argue that I'm also kinda eager to see the rest of its cutscenes and the final true ending so I can start 2019 with a fresh slate. If I want those cutscenes to happen, thoug...

Say what you will about the games themselves, but I think 2018 has been a genuinely incredible year for video game music. It’s great to see developers experiment with all sorts of fresh styles, and the form is becoming so much more diverse and artful than I could have ever imagined. And it’s just high quality stuff across the board, in ways that elevate and empower the games we play. Even withi...

Folks, this has been a year . Let me just say this first - thank you. From the bottom of my battered and bruised heart, thank you. When I went through diastolic heart failure in June, my brother @upperdecker made a post in the forums to ask for thoughts and prayers. At the time, I was surly and downright angry from days spent in a brutally uncomfortable hospital bed waiting for any sort of pers...

Hey there, my sweet Summaries children, to another episode of the Saturday Summaries. We're getting down to the wire with this year's content, and a few of my ongoing series will be wrapping up this week and next. As such, the subsequent week will have a very different structure: Tuesday will see the finale of the SNES Classic Mk. II feature, breaking from my alternating Tuesday schedule, and T...
