Life is Strange: Before the Storm is a three-episode prequel story set a few years before Life is Strange and built with the same engine, focusing on Chloe Price's teen years in the period between when Max Caulfield was out of the picture and before she came back to Arcadia Bay and Chloe's life. Still dealing with the tragic loss of her father and bereft of confidants and outlets for her grief,...

Yes, I'm publishing my Game of the Year list in January for the second year in a row. Considering how much I do with my end of year music list , however, I'm going to give myself a pass for being slightly late. And while I echo the chorus that 2018 wasn't the all-time year for video games that 2017 was, I still found a number of gaming experiences (specifically 10 I suppose) that resonated enou...

Hello, if you're reading this congratulations! You have stumbled upon the definitive list of the best video games of 2018! Before we get to the list itself there is some house-keeping to get out of the way. Namely games I played this year that I must highlight but for whatever reason don't "count". Destiny 2: Forsaken Destiny 2 vanilla was one of my favorite games of 2017. Destiny 2 in 2018 had...

Not a lot of personal comments from me. This was a year with a few good ups, a lot of terrible downs, and a 2019 resolution to make my life more positive. Thankful for the GB community (specifically the Goldman Shaxx friends) for making gaming a brighter place. Now onto the list! 10A. and 10B. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Diablo 3 Switch There’s nothing meaningful I can add to the conversati...

Man, it sure takes a while to go through all this hashtag content that comes up during the Game of the Year (GOTY) deliberations. I only just managed to get through it all and I like this new format a lot. Here’s to the crew thinking of us with bad memory, to give us an actual recap of what all these games, good and bad, are about. Please continue doing that, because I drank a lot and lost most...

[This is the fifth entry in a countdown of the best Ridge Racer games. I recommend you read the introduction before reading this; it includes a brief history of the series and links for each entry.] Ridge Racer - Arcade/Sony PlayStation/Sony PlayStation 2/Mobile/Zeebo, 1993 The Arcade Comes Home It's funny to think about it, but even after over a decade of iteration, the original Ridge Racer ho...

Alright y’all, it might be late, but it’s time for the REAL game of the year list. You can take those cowboy simulations, dying cells, and drug tetrises elsewhere. After taking a year off, it’s time to talk about the best games I played in “two thousand eighteen” that did not come out during said calendar year. In some ways, I actually like putting this list together more than the other one . F...

I recently posted my top 10 list for 2018 , which is one of my favorite community exercises every year here on Giant Bomb. But like most years, I also played well more than those 10 games. What about the rest? Where do they stand? Because as nice as it to distill it all down to a set of 10, there are always many more than 10 games that color my year. This, then, is my chance to speak to those a...

2018. What do you think Laozi's favorite anime would have been? Would he have preferred anime with warfare and politics or would he have been more of a moé Slice of Life fan? Perhaps only the filthiest of hentai would do. The Manga Was (Not) Better Let's start with the fact that I didn't watch as much anime this year. I mean, I still watched a lot, but I also played some video games and read a...

Alright we are back for Round 2 So with the conclusion of Goblin Slayer (since it was a week delayed from everything else), I hearby dub this season of Anime over, the Fall Lineup is "over" (excluding ongoing series), and we're full on our way to Winter 2019. This is the period where we are no longer allowed to talk about what happened in Fall because soon we will be bombarded by atleast 249 ne...

This year felt insane both in terms of bullshit happening to me and the rest of the world, it also seems like it was the longest year of my life. I was shocked to find out that not only monster Hunter world but also Dragonball fighterz and far cry 5 all came out early this year which feels like a lifetime ago. Before getting into my list I have to say my dishonorable mentions is nearly as long...

When I made it to April without touching a single 2018 game I wasn't sure if I'd make it to 10 new games year to get a complete list, but I managed to just under the wire. There was a chunk of time when I was considering including Switch Online's NES collection in this list, but I came to my senses and realized Super Mario Bros 3 doesn't belong in this list. My habits the past couple years have...

That wasn't a typo. I repeat, gnames was not a typo. Kone is a Community Member at Giant Bomb. He sparked the Funko Pop! x Giant Bomb craze of 2018 and ended the year with a GIF of Giant Bomb's very own Jan Ochoa as The Quiet Man . He also claimed two second place finishes in Giant Bomb's 10th Annual E3 Banner Contest, which makes him a double loser. 2018 was a great year for gnames. What's tha...

That's right, H.O.Pals, I'm back on my concealed paraphernalia bullshit once again to close out the year! For those unfamiliar with this series, I began 2018 looking into what we genre experts have been calling H.O.P.A.s: Hidden Object Puzzle Adventures. A step or two above the usual hidden object fare, HOPAs supplement the traditional tableaus of assorted crap to pick through with some Layton...

Author's Note: Hello there! My name is ZombiePie, and I am a Giant Bomb forum and wiki moderator. Every year I look at the various sources of entertainment I enjoyed and disliked. The character of Chris is so relatable because he is sort of an eve...

If 2017 was the year of back-to-back incredible games, then 2018 has one of the more diverse selections in recent memory. There’s not been a year in quite a while that has so much variety in the GotY lists of the people I follow, where my main takeaway has been either “oh I’ve not had chance to play that” or “oh I’ve not even heard of that”. My list of favourite games this year isn’t exactly fu...

Welp, 2018 is almost over. As far as how 2018 was when compared to 2017, it certainly doesn’t seem to have as many significant titles as the past year. Certainly this year we got games with amazing receptions such as God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Monster Hunter World and so on. But it feels like the grand sum of 2018’s catalogue of games won’t be a memorable as 2017 wh...

Well, that was a year. Simultaneously a neverending nightmare and gone in a flash. But hey, we’re still alive!. Constantly exhausted and despondent at the current state of humanity, but still living. Hooray? The role of games in my life has changed due to the paranoia creep inflicted by the daily news cycle. Namely, I played fewer of them, made it a point to read more, stopped looking at Twitte...
