New Years Resolutions are lame and New Years Resolutions about video games are even lamer, but I can't sleep right now and I've been thinking a fair amount about gaming and what I want out of it in the new year. These resolutions are mostly for me to check in on at the end of next year to see whether I stuck to them or deviated and figure out why (did I get undisciplined or did I have good reas...

2020 was not a kind year to most of us, which renewed the importance of media in many of our lives. It was a lifeline to escape from the doldrums or gain perspective on the world, and now is a perfect time to reflect on it. At the end of each year, I hand-select the finest titles I played for the first time, so in purely alphabetical order, here are my favourites from 2020: Animal Crossing: New...

I don't have a conventional 2020 list this year. Sure, I played a few games actually released in 2020, but for the most part I played older games. I went in and cleaned up the first two games in The Bard's Tale Trilogy , and got started on the Thief of Fate , a game I originally played in my early teens. Somehow I have 70+ hours with most of BT3 left to play through. This 'remastered' trilogy o...

Update: Remember that I said that the next part might depend on if I get stuck or not… Guess what happened… while in on one hand I have made some progress, even going beyond what I was able to do in previous attempts. I also find myself stuck, making only small steps of progress and hitting walls. This had an effect where I start to write this, make a bit of progress and need to rewrite and so...

Every (okay, most) years I write something about my games of the year. Sometimes it’s a numbered list. Sometimes it’s a categorical summary like this one. Sometimes it’s several blogs over several days in who knows what kind of format. When I sat down and looked back at what I played in 2020, the games seemed to align themselves into the categories you see below. With apologies to Giant Bomb's...

It has been a year . Like, on top of all the other craziness going on this year, I decided this was going to be the year I did the "52 games in one year" challenge. To add to that, I also decided I was only going to count games that released in 2020. Now, anyone who has visited any digital games store knows that there are a ton of games that release every single week so despite playing so many...

So I'm sitting here drinking some whiskey, pondering what is making me feel so restless during a snow-ice-other storm, understanding that it's all the stuff this year is. Apple News, and CNN, truthfully both, are telling me I might see $600 in my bank account before midnight. I bet I won't. I entered this year wanting to play more games than I had last year, buried in a grind of MLB The Show's...

Bienvenido and be ready to present your passports as we enter the Principality of Technicality for this, the final Indie Game of the Week for 2020. Y'see, CrossCode is technically a 2020 game (its console debut), but it's also a 2015 game (early access on Steam) and a 2018 game (full release on Steam). I was wary about considering it for Game of the Year purposes, which is why it gets the honor...

Hey everyone, here are my top games of 2020 that I compile every year for Subpixel ! Also check out my holiday RimWorld video ! Now on with the show... 1. RimWorld The fun and magic of RimWorld immediately swept me off my feet. It’s not a better game than Dwarf Fortress per-se, but it has a great clean look and is way more accessible to the modern gamer than DF ever will be (Until the Steam rel...

So yeah, 2020... In a lot of ways, looking at the list I’ve created here kind of sums up how I felt about the year in general. So much of the mainstream was pushed aside for me that I had to find gems in other places. Because there were no big films, or hell, I didn’t have a film festival to go to either, I found myself seeking out old and weird stuff and in a way, this translated into the type...

As everyone settles in to write their GOTY lists for 2020, a nice way to look back on and digest the year that was without it just being completely on fire, I've been thinking about what mine may look like. I've played plenty of great games this year. Some that came out this year, some that are a few years old. But most of all I just did a lot of thinking about games this year. So here's three...

If you’ve read my work before, you know that I make an effort to look at things optimistically. Yes, it would be ludicrous to call 2020 anything other than a shitshow. The Forces That Be seemed determined to hurt as many people as possible. The bright-eyed predictions I made 12 months ago are now laughable. But you don’t need me to tell you that. Instead, I’m going to remind everyone that we ma...

Oh hey there. Are you tired? Because you've been Ghostrunnin' through my mind. Motherfuckers, it is time. Time to get yourself a Yoo-hoo and a frozen burrito. Time to unbuckle that belt and lay back on your favorite filthy anime full-body pillow. Hold your breath, make a wish, count to three, then come with me to a world of puerile imagination. I'm gonna take your mind out the same way I did yo...

The first Watch Dogs game is one of my least favorite games I’ve ever finished. I hated the protagonist, the story, the setting, and thought the gameplay was barely adequate. I only saw it through to the credits out of some sort of twisted combination of spite and the hope that something cool would happen. There were a couple decent sequences, including a fun battle in a junkyard, and I thought...

2020, huh? I played some old games, played some new games…. Alright nailed it, moving on. I feel like this list already scoffs at any semblance of very arbitrary rules, what with its remakes, reissues, ports, and what have yous. That said, in keeping with tradition here's a few things to note: The “And 1” spot is for a game that either might not have otherwise made the list due to a technicalit...

Yeah. Merry Christmas. Happy holidays. Or just a "have a nice Friday," if you prefer. Raise a glass or a bottle or a can of whatever you got. Here's to a moment of peace and friendship. We made it through the fire. Fuck 2020, bring on 2021. Love to you all. From your pal, my pal, everybody's pal, Cam

After a year of (waves arms in air) all of that, I'm thankful I had the time to play more games throughout 2020. It was a year of some truly prodigious titles! Some made me laugh, some made me cry. Some made my PS4 Pro's power supply call it quits (lookin' at you, Marvel's Avengers!). But, in the end, they gave me many well-spent hours in some pretty awesome virtual worlds. 10. Astro's Playroom...

I think when we look back at 2020 most of us will reference it as “The Lost Year”. The year where the world stopped, no travel, no events, no anything. I for one was laid off at the end of March and spent seven and a half months looking for work. Luckily I found something that I’m really enjoying, bonus that it’s paying the bills. I know though this whole thing that there are people in less for...

GOTY 2020 BONUS: Ranking of Warhammers revised The image you see on your screen is not a simulation. It's something that I did once, god have mercy on me. Yubi Yubi. No anime blog this year, because I’ve barely watched any anime in the last handful of months, but just assume that it would be me constan...
