Overview
ClockWerx is a puzzle game developed by Callisto Corporation and published by Spectrum HoloByte for Windows PCs and Macintosh computers in 1995.
One of five games from the publisher that's endorsed (or "introduced") by Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov (the others being BreakThru!, WildSnake, Qwirks, and Knight Moves), ClockWerx is the retail sequel to the studio's earlier freeware Macintosh game Spin Doctor.
Players control a pointer (resembling a hand of a clock face) that revolves around dots on the playfield, as they move between them to navigate around various traps and reach the goal. As the pointer rotates endlessly, players can only control it using four buttons: two to reverse its direction-of-rotation (either at-will or when it reaches a connecting dot) and two to move between connecting dots (in either same or reversed direction).
The game was later ported by Axes Art Amuse for the Super Famicom, Sony PlayStation, and Sega Saturn, all of which were released exclusively in Japan by Tokuma Shoten in 1995 (SFC) and 1996 (PS1, Saturn). These versions are unique in that the player's pointer is replaced by a new human character that revolves around each dot. The SFC version is notable for a different set of levels, while the PS1 and Saturn versions are notable for their claymation art style and cutscenes.
