Options to assist players with vision, hearing, or other impairments
Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Games that feature stages in which the player is forced to continually progress, chased by a relentless and lethal threat that covers the entire height/width of the screen.
Used by protagonists when opening a door that is locked, or just for looking really cool.
Characters either begin with multiple outfits, unlock them through play, or purchase them as in-game items. These costumes are sometimes integral to play.
Animals and Creatures that serve to populate levels and give the world life. Usually passive and may try to avoid or runaway from the player, But some may become hostile to the player once attacked/provoked. Some may not be able to be interacted with at all either being in the background/foreground or too far away.
Games where the protagonist's weapon physically displays the amount of remaining ammunition. This is commonly used to increase a game's immersiveness.
Artificial life-forms ("robots") specifically designed to mimic the appearance of human beings. Although this is a male-specific term, with female-looking machines actually being "gynoids", the term "android" is generally used universally in video games.
And these games are available... right now.
Characters who are apologetic when killing a victim.
In these games, there is an actual number or meter on-screen that shows how much armor the player has. Rather than being treated like equipment or a power-up, this armor serves more as a secondary health pool.
Autism describes a loose collective of neurodevelopmental conditions, the most common of which tend to be difficulty socializing, repetitive behavior, and sensory sensitivity.
A tiered reward system usually involving players having to purchase to acquire certain rewards.
"You fight like a dairy farmer!" and "I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than you!" are both good examples of this.
A multiplayer mode that pits a large number of players (typically 100) in a winner-takes-all, last-person-standing battle as they scavenge and fight for survival. These games typically take place in a shrinking play zone.
Corpses disappear immediately or after a short delay. Often done to help maintain game performance, especially when physics are involved.
The most prestigious awards in the British videogame calender, the BAFTA Video Game Award honour the achievements of the best game developers and their games.
Players can choose from a selection of classes to play as in order to complete objectives, or support their team in the most effective way.
Games with characters who close the eyelids of dead characters, often used to indicate respect for the deceased.
Some games have an option that makes it easier for color blind players to play.
A common concept in RPGs and MMOs, color-coded loot is a concept where the quality/rarity of loot items are defined by a series of colors.
Games which have served as the basis of a comic book or vice versa.
A notable time delay which ignores the character/player state (like having enough mana) and prevents an ability or action from being done. This concept is common in MMORPGs, but does occur in other genres.
Whether through microtransactions or loot drops, getting that special hat or extra-sparkly pair of pants allows players to put their personal stamp on a character, without giving them a gameplay advantage.
The ultimate pressure feature. Players have to complete the task at hand, be it defeating opponents or cutting the right wire, in the allotted time.
Some games, despite being on platforms whose default controller is a gamepad, allow the player to move a mouse-style cursor around freely in order to select menu options or perform gameplay actions.
Some games let players customize their character (or characters). Degree of customization may vary, with some games simply allowing to choose between different types of clothes, while others provide more detailed tinkering of features such as the distance between a character's eyes or hair color.
Deadly Gas is used in many games as an obstacle and usually causes the player's health to degenerate over time.
The concept of purchasing media and having it delivered over the internet. No physical representation of this content is given, and although the content resides on the user's hard drive they are typically granted a license to the product, rather than ownership of it.
