Overview

Amy Rose was first introduced into the Sonic franchise in the Sega CD game Sonic CD (Game). She plays the part of Sonic's love interest throughout the Sonic series though it is not always clear if her affections are returned. Sonic often has to rescue her from bad situations she gets herself into and is almost a cliche' damsel in distress at times.

However, in more recent years, Amy became a playable character but due to her lack of speed and strength compared to other characters, Amy often has to rely on other methods to help keep up with Sonic. Most notably, she uses a giant toy hammer as her primary method of attack. Additionally, in Sonic R (Game), Amy needed to drive a car in order to keep up with her more swift competitors who raced on foot.
