Double jump in Crash Bandicoot 3 is by far the worst in my experience. It completely kills your forward momentum and slows you down so much, it totally ruins the flow of running and jumping. And there's basically no gameplay benefit, because the height/distance it ends up giving you is tiny.

Considering the price, and that I just finished dumping 100 hours into the sequel a day ago, and the fact I didn't really like the original all that much back in the day, I'm surprised how strongly I'm considering it.

Turns out Trails in the Sky is good, they just needed an entire 50 hour game to set up an actual story for the sequel. I'm 6 chapters deep into the second one now and it's got its hooks in all the way, finally.

Though based on what I've heard about the structure of the 3rd game, I think I'm just gonna watch a cutscene compilation on youtube for that one.

Seen some edits that make it fully black and it looks much more palatable. Still doesn't fix the fact they have big hollows that'll fill with dirt and lightbars pointed at your face, though.

I've never had any issue with the old dualshock handfeel, but if this feels better to hold then I don't really mind losing the classic look for this.

I think I'm out after reading what happens at the end of this game. If they were gonna deviate as the big twist, they could have at least made it in service of something better than time travel/alternate universe shlock.

Thank god I'll never need to pull out a PS3 to replay this game. Automata was great, but never grabbed me the way this game did. Hopefully Brother Nier is as compelling as Papa Nier, but I have my biases about that already.

A few tidbits: the music has been re-recorded, and some new tracks are being added. 2B and 9S's voice actors have confirmed they have some involvement, so there's gonna be some new content. Apparently this version will be "fully voice acted", (but I don't remember the original lacking much VO to begin with).

Hoping we get a stream of the multiplayer at some point, could be fun as a community or even cross-coast thing. Gotta get that Galactic Readiness up.

I wonder when the best time for Citadel is. I almost feel like they should save it and come back to it after Alex has had time to "take in" the ending of 3, since Citadel was a much better sendoff for the franchise than what we got in the main game.

Honestly, as far as the combat goes... that's kind of just how it is. You should be able to get away with holding dodge when you see stuff moving around you, and then continuing to hold attack/get behind enemies for blindsides until they're dead. Buy lots of potions and a few phoenix downs and you'll never die. This isn't combat you can get particularly good at, you just get used to how automated/unresponsive it is.

As far as actual tips go:

  • Try to stay at hotels as often as you can, as the game only tallies up your EXP when you sleep and hotels multiply that tally up to 3x.
  • Most of the sidequests become available in chapter 3, and you can go off and explore all of that and then be overlevelled for everything else. I think I spent most of my overall playtime in chapter 3, and I wouldn't recommend it. I'd beeline to the chocobo stuff when they mention it, and pick up any quest you come across, but don't go out of your way for them unless you need money.
  • Buy Cup Noodleâ„¢.
  • Check every gas station, most of them have upgrades for your car, and music you will absolutely want.
  • Turn on the stamina bar, and if you release and then hold the sprint button again as it's about to run out, it'll refill and let you sprint infinitely. As far as I know the game never mentions this, so you might need to look at a video for the timing if you're not getting it.
  • The chocobo/car AP bonuses aren't super worthwhile, beyond the initial few hours. You probably won't get more than a couple hundred AP total from these in a regular playthrough, so if other things sound more appealing then go for it. I'd recommend the AP from eating upgrade over the chocobo one, at the very least.
