I think the problem was that WW2 games did the same thing over and over: Western Europe from American perspective. D-Day over and over, American paratroopers over and over. Probably because of how popular Saving Private Ryan and COD1 was. It's a shame because everyone got burned out on WW2, when they could have done more Russian theater stuff, North Africa armored stuff, Italy, Pacific island hopping with cool naval battles, and air battles.

That's why I like BattleStations Pacific because you're in an airplane or ship the whole time.

I think it would be cool if they more Vietnam war stuff, or even the Korean war.

It will be interesting to see what BFV does with the their single player campaign because it will probably be vignettes of a-typical stories that we haven't seen done to death.

Looking at the chat in the Battlefield V Alpha, a lot of people were worried that EA would COD-ify battlefield, IE, take what was unique about it and turn it into a COD-like because of COD's popularity.

I don't necessarily think that is true, but I do believe people score way better on foot. That downplays the series' uniqueness. It's also extremely unrealistic to how things would actually work on a battlefield. If there was a single enemy tank or plane on the field, most of the enemy team should get scared and have to respond.

The tanks are so fragile that you can't use them as tanks, IE, a weapon designed to punch through the enemy lines. In the BFV alpha, the INFANTRY has to punch through enemy lines, and the tanks have to sit way back and snipe. I hope they fix that.

There's nothing like the feeling of being "in the zone" with a competitive shooter. I got that way with Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, and then with PUBG. With PUBG specifically there is a pacing and tension that I believe is unique to video games. It can be like Call of Duty, die-respawn-repeat, and it can somehow also be the scariest horror game you have ever played.

BUT to have a good time with it, and not be frustrated, you need to not be murdered viciously at every single encounter with another player. No competitive shooter is fun if you feel like cannon fodder. If you want to give PUBG another shot, try this: Fire it up solo. Drop military base every time on the original map. Treat it like call of duty. Do this for an hour straight. Be aggressive and when you die reload and drop military base again. When you hear gunfire, run towards it, not away. Two people shooting each other are worried about shooting each other, not the third guy coming in.

Every competitive shooter has a baseline level of "twitch" skill that the average player has. Getting there makes PUBG fun, so that when you encounter players out in the world you have a halfway decent shot at taking them out, and taking their sweet sweet loot. Don't loot 18 bathrooms. Kill the other guy, so that he will have looted 18 bathrooms for you.

Also watch level cap gaming's Youtube channel for PUBG inspiration on improving.

Ever had the feeling of Sequel-itis?

So many safe sequels that the sequels have sequels. And all the sequels of sequels all have prequels.

I have had strong sequel-itis most of E3 so far. It's not that Gears 5 will be poorly made, and not fun, it's just that it's the 5th, and the 5th time of almost anything is going to be a little stale.

The solution: Hideo Kojima to the rescue!

This guy is a living, breathing fever dream. I kind of wish this crazy man would generate new IP and outsource it to other studios. Norman Reedus, sneaking through a field. His radar-pinging backpack, helping him avoid the inter-dimensional monsters, and a strapped on artificial womb for his baby clone of himself! Come On!

Death Stranding is the weirdest and most unique-feeling new IP in a great long while. Perhaps since Bioshock 1. Every once in a while somebody comes up with something that seems genuinely different. And this seems like it.

A retailer not wanting to be responsible for the products they bring to market is a copout! I strongly dislike their "solve everything with an algorithm" hands-off approach to everything. I'm going to be actively avoiding Steam purchases from now on.

I'm very tired of Steam's hands-off approach to everything. The perfect example is the stupid histogram of review scores that they came up with so you could see if a game was being review-bombed or not. That is such a typical Valve solution to a problem.

Also, Valve wanting to wash their hands of offensive content is a copout, because they take a % of all the content. They are a retailer. It's like Target taking a cut on swastika flag sales, and saying they don't want to do moral policing. Sorry Target, it doesn't matter what you want, you're angry customers are leaving. That doesn't really fly for a retailer, who is ultimately responsible for the products they sell, whether they want to be or not.

And have you heard of any store that has such low standards that they will sell anything as long as it's legal? Wow, that's a pretty low bar. Is your product bad, but not SO bad that the cops come? Sure, I'll sell it for you! How about a basic bar of quality like, "does it run on modern computers"? (many don't without customer work-arounds).

I tried Kingdom Come: Deliverance at launch and it was a buggy mess. Is it patched enough yet (June 2018) where I should try it now, or should I wait even longer? Thanks!
