Vagrant Story. I hadn't mastered the weapon crafting/upgrade system but I'd managed to make it to the end boss with no real difficulties before discovering the weapon I'd gone into that fight with was nearly completely useless - I was literally only doing chip damage of 1 hp per strike. Still, between parrying and health regen I managed to stay in the fight ever so slowly grinding down his health bar for well over an hour until it was depleted. At which point I sigh in relief, put down the controller, and he flew back in and one shot me from full health.

Threw the controller across the room and never played the game again.

What puts Nier over the top for me was the god damned seemless transitioning between alternate versions of the same track when you go in and out of hacking and (especially) kick off the true version of the ending theme. A lot of over games this year had fantastic soundtracks (though P5 didn't set me on fire the way P3 and P4 did) but that use of the soundtrack for more than just having great songs at the right time is what I'd like to see recognised.

Mortal Kombat is the only one I remember ever hearing people who weren't hardcore into games talk about. Also the Mortal Kombat movie was a lot more successful than the Tekken one, which helps keep it in the public conciousness.

Since there are people on here with a bit of knowledge on Patreon, does anyone understand how the taxation element works? I say I want to pay Danny $5/month, I get charged $6/month by Patreon (plus a fee from my bank for a foreign currency transaction). Who's tax is that extra dollar? Presumably not Danny's, as he'll be set up as a company to pay expenses and only get charged income tax on the leftovers he takes as salary/drawings and/or corporation tax if the company makes a profit.

I'm sure I already know the answer and am showing my own ignorance, but cross play is only between PS4 and Vita, right? No way to link up with players on PC?

Confused at the lack of an "I use a mouse and keyboard, like God intended" option.

I found Naked Lunch too hard to continue reading (I didn't even get to the reputedly gross bits, just couldn't cope with the stream of consciousness prose and deliberate lack of structure). Pulling an entertaining movie out of the book whilst keeping enough of the beats that it's recognisable to the people who've read it is quite an achievement.

  • Final Fantasy XII
  • Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
  • Xenosaga Trilogy
  • All the Shin Megami Tensei games (Persona, DDS, Nocturne)
  • Grandia games
  • Suikoden games

Basically all the good old RPGs. And maybe some others I can't think of right now.

All of these (though I never played any Grandia), Shadow Hearts 1&2. And I've got a weird soft spot for Primal, though more for the music and voice talent than the game itself.

Does my opinion matter if I don't have a PS4? In all honesty, the only way in which I see myself getting a PS4 is if it suddenly introduced backwards compatibility or made the classics collection in Europe/Australia be not an incredibly stunted version of what Americans get.

I have a PS4, and backwards compatability would be a lot more important to me than anything, or even everything, on that list.
