I'm just glad that tri-Ace isn't dead, I kinda feared the worst when their only recent output was remasters of ps3 era games and after how poorly Star Ocean 5 did....

The gaming world needs tri-Ace weird in it and while the Star Ocean games really went downhill the other games they have made have been good like Resonance of Fate, and despite the jokes about it Infinite Undiscovery was perfectly ok!

The plot twist in 3 didnt destroy the series, the quality of the 4th and 5th entries is what killed it.

Here is hoping this one is actually not a complete disaster like 4 or clearly budget and boring like 5.

Also slight nitpick, 3 doesn't say the characters in the games are player controlled they are AI so essentially its the we all live in a simulation theory before that became in vogue. I don't think it ruins any of the story building in previous games, most of which simply doesn't deal with that scale anyways, in practice its just like any other universe.

I feel like people overly focus on the twist in 3 because its the last game in the series that was any good. Why does no one talk about how in 4 the characters travel to an alternate universe, end up being the roswell crash aliens, then proceed to accidentally destroy that entire universe murdering trillions upon trillions of beings? because the game was bad and no one cares.

Shame about the performance, this dev has a bit of a history with poor performance in their games although the last 3DS game had finally gotten that under control.... then we are right back at it it seems. Hope it comes to other platforms.

@convox: That is kinda wild to me, Zestiria (which i slogged through) is commonly considered a somewhat crappy Tales game. Berseria aint perfect or anything but its dungeons are definitely an improvement over the tedium of Zestirias ones.

I have played most of the Tales games and I have never understood why this one gets so much praise. I have always thought it one of the clunkiest in the series and while the look is nice and the characters are one of the better groups in the series the battle system and main plot are just real mediocre or below for the franchise. I'd much sooner recommend Xillia or Berseria over it for modern tales games. Also that guy doing his troy baker impression for the new dialogue is super weird.

Ben skipping character interactions while focusing on the main plot of a Tales game just feels real wrong to me XD. The series strength has always been its cast of characters and their little skits etc, the main plots are usually super generic and often pretty bad.... to each their own i guess.

@sparky_buzzsaw I think the major difference there is that Dragon Quest still has the same exact creative leads it has always had since the beginning. DQXI isnt a return to form from new people, its another good game in a series of all good games made by the same people sticking to what they know and do best. Which company handles the development workload has shifted a few times, but enix and now square-enix really only act as publishers for that series (11 is the first single player one developed by a square-enix team).

It is easy to point out now but the loss of Sakaguchi and other prominent series stewards post FFX, and then the burning out of their other great hope in Matsuno during the development of XII, had a real profoundly negative effect on the company. Its no excuse for why other people weren't able to step up and make something good of it, but the evidence is right there that it didnt happen.
