Zanarkand is a city in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. There are two Zanarkands, Tidus's home was Dream Zanarkand, which is Zanarkand before Sin's destruction of the city, and Shuyin's Zanarkand which was the real city that was destroyed by Sin at the end of the Machina War 1000 year ago. Dream Zanarkand was an exact reproduction of what Zanarkand was before its destruction directly from the memories of its former inhabitants.
Trivia
The fictional city of Zanarkand was largely inspired by the real city of Samarkand, which it is named after. Located in present-day Uzbekistan, Samarkand was once a wealthy Persian city along the trade routes between China, India, and the Arab World. Many of the buildings in Zanarkand are modelled after the Islamic architecture of Samarkand.
