Overview

Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule: Breed & Battle is a turn-based strategy game and monster raising sim developed by KCE Shinjuku and published by Konami (Company) for the Sony PlayStation exclusively in Japan on July 23, 1998. It is the first video game adaptation of the manga and anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! and is based on the in-universe board game Capsule Monster Chess, which involve battling monster figurines on a tiled board similar to tactical RPGs (such as Final Fantasy Tactics (Franchise) and Fire Emblem (Franchise)). The game is known for its unique raising sim aspect, where players can train their monsters like virtual pets, similar to games like Monster Rancher (Game). While most of the video game adaptations of the series afterwards are based on the series' more prominent "Duel Monsters" collectible card game, Capsule Monster Chess would receive two additional adaptations: one for the Game Boy Color and one for the PlayStation 2.
