The Tale of a Common Man is the second game released by Kes of Gemelle Games working with Aldrolea Games. It was created using RPG Maker VX Ace.
The story starts out with the player following Jerrat, a poor peasant, but happy with his life and lot. He has a wife, a child, and his farm and that's all he needs in life. When the game starts he goes out to repair the fence and returns home to find his wife and child have been slaughtered. A cut-scene showed that it was an army passing through that ransacked his farm, taking all their food and animals and killing the people there so they could not tell of their passing. Jerrat swears revenge and takes off to find the people responsible for killing his family, armed only wish a shovel.
Being created in RPG Maker VX Ace most of the systems are "traditional" fare. A turn-based battle system with the enemies being visible on the screen but not the players. A few unique features to A Tale of a Common Man though that are not natively in RPG Maker games are:
After leveling up a character, players can choose to increase their abilities, further customizing them.
In most RPG Maker games, players have a four-person party walking around and in battles, but in Tale of a Common man, players can fight with a five-person party.
The Tale of a Common Man has multiple difficulty levels which increase the stats and difficulty of the enemies players face in the game.
There are hidden rooms that can be found on the different maps in the game. A lot of them contain some of the best armor and weapons in the game, but only if players are willing to explore and find the rooms.
