Overview

Taimanin Asagi originally dropped in October 2005 as a Japan-only release on PC. There were plans by Infini-Brain to release it worldwide in episodic format on Steam, in 2019, but only the first episode was released (after being quietly removed from the storefront by Valve). A Complete Edition of the game was released on Steam on October 2023 for a worldwide audience. A Visual Novel set in a fantasy version of modern-day Japan. In this world, there is a fragile peace between the Human and Demon realms. However, where demons and other rogue organizations seek to destroy that peace, the Taimanin (anti-demon ninjas) are there to stop them. The game would go on to spawn an entire multimedia franchise, including sequels and spinoff visual novels, manga and anime adaptations, a less adult themed gacha game, a live-action JAV, and more.

Story

The story of the first Taimanin Asagi in particular centers around Asagi Igawa, the strongest active Taimanin who plans to retire from her work and marry her fiance, Sawaki Kyousuke, shortly after finishing off the traitorous Taimanin known as Oboro, and then hand off duties to her teammate and little sister, Sakura Igawa. However, despite supposedly killing Oboro, she returns from the dead, kidnaps Asagi's fiance, and then uses him to coerce Asagi herself into the underground Chaos Arena where she is forced to fight for her life every night, and get raped by her enemies if she loses. Sakura soon falls to a similar fate trying to rescue her sister. There are multiple endings depending on the choices the player makes throughout the story, but the "true" ending appears to be where the two sisters are forced to fight each other in a final match, but they use it as an opportunity to get close to Oboro and kill her, breaking her spell over Asagi that keeps her losing in the arena. After escaping the Chaos Arena, Sakura later kills the Igawa clan's elder, after he admits that he quietly orchestrated Oboro's revival and revenge plot to bring Asagi back as a Taimanin, and get rid of her weak fiance.
