Super World Stadium
GAME » on January 1991
A sequel to the Pro Yakyuu World Stadium series of Japanese baseball arcade games. It is notable for its later revisions introducing the series to the real-life licensed teams from Nippon Professional Baseball.

Overview

Super World Stadium is a baseball game developed and released by Namco (Company) for arcades (using their System II hardware) on January 1991. The sequel to the original 1988-1990 entries of Pro Yakyuu World Stadium (Game) (itself a spin-off of the Family Stadium (Franchise) series), Super World Stadium features updated graphics and new teams. Several of these changes were brought into the Super Famicom as part of the Super Famista series. The game later received multiple revisions from 1992-1993, including Super World Stadium '92, Super World Stadium '92 Gekitou-ban, and Super World Stadium '93 Gekitou-ban. Each feature updated rosters, all of which are licensed directly from Nippon Professional Baseball (Concept). The "Gekitou-ban" versions also allows operators to enable "favored" teams, giving those teams less stamina penalties and more cheering.

Teams

All 12 teams (each based on a real-life Nippon Professional Baseball (Concept) team) from the previous game return, with some new changes:

Later revisions of the game change the teams to their NPB licensed counterparts, a first in the overall series.

In addition, the original version included four bonus teams, some of which are based on leagues from Major League Baseball (Concept).

  • OB's - Consists of famous retired NPB players.
  • Fifties - Consists of players from 1950's NPB.
  • Nationals - Consists of players from the MLB's National League.
  • Americans - Consists of players from the MLB's American League.
