Nameless is a top-down shooter featuring Artius, an amnesiac with an unknown backstory. The game's conflict centers around a terrorist and the police. At the onset of the game, Artius seems to have ties to the terrorists, but he is given a second chance by the police should he co-operate with them. Throughout the game you must take down hundreds of terrorist lackeys, but it is left up to the player how they choose to dispatch of their enemies - with lethal or non-lethal weaponry. The player's choices impact the narrative, and produce a different finale depending on how many people were killed.
Nameless mixes humor with sobering scenes of violence and psychological trauma. The overall mood throughout the story is dark, but it is not without moments of light-hearted dialogue and whimsical easter eggs. Combat is fast-paced, with a variety of guns and miscellaneous weapons unlocked throughout. Most enemies can be taken down with a few shots or melee attacks, and sometimes environmental objects can be used to the player's advantage. A level is completed once all enemies in the room are taken out, so the main challenge for players is to defeat all the enemies in the room without running out of health. A stealth ability can be used to gain a small speed boost and sneak past enemy sights, although its use is limited and must recharge over time. The series of battles are broken up periodically with optional puzzles or mini-games the player can complete to obtain coins. These coins can be used as currency to unlock new weapons at designated vending machine shops. Nameless contains an original soundtrack of more than 60 tracks across a variety of genres.
