Overview

Murder, Anyone? is a detective-themed interactive movie developed and published by VidMax (Company) for all LaserDisc (Concept)-supported players in 1982. The first in the two-game MysteryDisc (Franchise) series (the other one being Many Roads to Murder), Murder, Anyone? has players watching the live-action FMV story while using the frame-skipping feature of LaserDisc to choose which permutation of the story to unfold (up to 16 in total), which clues and interviews to pursue, and what their guesses are. It is intended to be played with multiple players (or teams), similar to later VHS- and DVD-based board games. The game's story is set in a New Jersey (Location) mansion in 1936, where wealthy socialite Derrick Reardon has been murdered by one of eight people in the estate, each for different reasons. Players watch as private detective Stew Cavanaugh, played by Paul Gleason, interview the suspects, and then take turns pursuing different clues in order to figure out the Murderer, the Motive, and the Method. Some notable actors and actresses in the film portion include Paul Gleason, Barbara Baxley, Larry Pine, Christine Estabrook, Rex Robbins, and Lea Thompson (in her first credited role).
