Great Sluggers
GAME » on November 1993
The mid-'90s entry in Namco's 1994 baseball arcade game series World Stadium, switching to more realistically-proportioned players. It was also released in the U.S., with teams and players from the MLB, and later received Japanese revisions that make it more in-line with the traditional World Stadium series.

Overview

Great Sluggers: New World Stadium is a baseball game developed and published by Namco (Company) for arcades (using their NB-1 hardware) exclusively in Japan on November 1993. Part of the World Stadium (Franchise) series of baseball arcade games, Great Sluggers is unique for changing each player's proportions to be more realistic (similar to the localized "Super Batter Up" release of Super Famista) rather than the series' traditional cartoonish proportions. It later received an updated revision in July 1994, known as Great Sluggers '94: New World Stadium, which also received a localized North American release as Great Sluggers (or Great Sluggers: Featuring 1994 Team Rosters). The North American release is the only dedicated arcade entry in the series to receive an overseas release and features teams and players from Major League Baseball (Concept) (rather than Nippon Professional Baseball (Concept)). The game received further revisions from 1995-1997 as Super World Stadium '95, Super World Stadium '96 and Super World Stadium '97. Along with the naming, these entries bring back the series's traditional cartoonish player proportions and music while still keeping the original game's ballpark data and designated hitter rule selection. The '96 and '97 entries also include bonus teams (with both receiving a "USA" team and '96 receiving "60's", "70's", "80's", and "90's" teams), and the '96 entry also includes two bonus single-player modes ("Official Match" and "Tournament").
