Frenetic Plus is a sci-fi single-player arcade-style mecha shooter where you pilot a multi-domain weapons platform called a "suit" in the game's lingo. It's the successor to the original Frenetic, which came out in late-2002. Caught up in a civil war, our protagonist Mercen 505 embarks on a race against time to reach Earth before the ruthless Exploratory Fleet makes it there before her. Severely outgunned and outnumbered, she must use her wits to strike when the enemy is vulnerable and use nebulas, asteroid fields and radiation fields as cover as she makes her way back to defend Earth.
At it's core, Frenetic Plus is a semi-3D shoot-'em'-up where you gun down waves of enemy suits. Gunning down the final remaining enemy suit results in a mission success. The game spans a total of 33 missions across its storyline, and also features tutorial missions, challenges and extra game modes. You're equipped with a gun (called a "sidearm"), a finite amount of missiles and a special ability called a "weapon pod". You can upgrade your suit and loadout between missions using C.L.A.Y (the game's currency), but be careful! You won't have enough cash to buy everything...
The game features a unique mechanic (at least for it's time) where the player is rewarded for damaging enemies as little possible. As soon as the enemies start to emit sparks, they are effectively incapacitated and will soon blow up. Further damaging the enemies during this brief period will result in a smaller C.L.A.Y reward. You are also rewarded based on your performance each mission with achievements. For example, taking almost no damage, not using missiles and reaching a high shot accuracy all net you a nice cash reward. Interestingly enough, the player is not really forced to follow the game's story, as large parts of it are told via a separate "Journal" -menu that the player can access between missions.
