Appare! Gateball ("Bravo! Gateball") is a gateball game developed by Westone and published by Hudson Soft for the PC Engine exclusively in Japan on December 22, 1988.

It is an adaptation of the Japanese sport of gateball (itself based on traditional croquet), where two teams of five players (Red and White) take turns hitting their ball with their mallet, with the goal of being the first team to have all of their balls cross three gates in order and end up resting on the center goal pole.

The game features a roster of 12 players to choose from, each with their own advantages and disadvantages, and the game can be played in three ways: Action Mode (in which players must time their shot correctly), Simulation Mode (in which players just watch the game unfold), and Lecture Mode (in which players just choose where the ball is intended to end up).

It later received a digital re-release for the Wii (Platform) (as a Virtual Console (Concept) title) in Japan on July 24, 2007, and was included in the TurboGrafx-16 Mini and PC Engine Mini mini-console.

Gameplay

To hit the ball the shot must first be lined up and then set. Once the shot has been set then the power of the shot must also be set. To set the power the player must stop a cursor that is traveling left and right continuously.
