Ace of Arenas is a multiplayer online battle arena game for mobile devices. It features a unique control system that uses the touchscreen joystick for movement and swiping motions on the touchscreen for selecting enemy targets.
The story of Ace of Arenas focuses on a war between two empires, the Taren Empire and the Apollo Empire. They are vying for control over magic circles, which grant mysterious powers to those who step inside them and can be used to perform incredible feats, up to and including raising the dead and summoning beings from other realities. This is presumably the reason behind Ace of Arenas' eclectic mix of fantasy and science fiction elements.
Ace of Arenas features a number of methods a player can use to strengthen their champions and give them an edge in battle.
Gems offer a bonus to a champion's attributes. By equipping Gems to the slots in a Gem Page, a player can boost a champion's strongest attributes or compensate for weaknesses. A player can have multiple Gem Pages and switch between them before beginning a battle. The player receives two Gem Pages for free, and can buy more with Diamonds. There are four different types of Gems: Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds, and Amethysts. The type of Gem determines which attributes it increases, though there is some overlap between the different types. Up to three gems of each type can be equipped in a Gem Page, except for Amethysts. Only one Amethyst can be equipped at a time. Each Gem can have one of five ranks: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. The rank of the Gem determines how big of a bonus it provides. Iron Gems are the least powerful, and Platinum Gems are the most powerful. Five Gems of the same rank can be combined to create a random Gem one rank higher. Gems can also be reforged using Diamonds; reforging a Gem will change it into a random Gem of the same rank.
Each champion has a unique set of talents that can alter the way they fight. These are essentially passive abilities that can increase attributes, add bonus effects to certain skills, etc. Talents must be activated with Talent Stones, which can be gained by winning battles. Talent Stones are unique to each champion; for example, Rosmira Talent Stones can only be used to activate Rosmira's Talents, and cannot be used for any other champion. Talents are arranged in five ranks, with three Talents in each rank. Only one Talent in each rank can be activated at a time, and a higher-rank Talent cannot be activated until a Talent in a lower rank has been activated first. Currently, only the first three ranks of Talents have been implemented for all champions. Talents can be reset using Diamonds.
Most (but not all) champions have alternative skins that can be purchased for their weapons. These skins also come with attribute changes; however, they are not across-the-board bonuses. Any attribute that a weapon skin increases will be offset by a decrease in another attribute. Thus, weapons can change the way a champion fights, which prompts the player to use different strategies with different weapons.
The Apollo and Taren Empires have selected champions to fight for them, and the player controls one of these champions in each battle. Most champions are affiliated with one of the two empires, though several are unaffiliated or are of unknown loyalties, and players are not prevented from pitting two champions on the same side against one another. Every week, three champions are offered on free rotation, allowing players to try them out without paying. This is in addition to the two champions that are always free (Hiti and Lucan) and the two that can be gained via daily login (Thor and Askar, gained by logging in for 3 and 7 days respectively). 25 champions were available at the game's soft launch, with three more champions added on worldwide release. Additional champions are planned for release in future updates to the game.
