Overview
Sword World RPG is a fantasy table-top game that offers the same degree of freedom and customization as Dungeons and Dragons, and other RPGs in that vein. The first three games attempted to recreate the open-endedness element of Sword World. The 2009 DS game based on the 2008 "2.0" relaunch of Sword World is more of a visual novel set in the same universe.
The Record of Lodoss War (Franchise), also created by Group SNE, is set in the same universe. The Lodoss Island, where the Record of Lodoss War novels/games are set, is part of the larger world of Forcelia that is the setting for Sword World.
Sword World has parallels with Germany's Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye (Franchise)) series. Both are table-top games with huge followings in their respective native countries, both are loosely based on Dungeons and Dragons and both have many video game adaptations, including RPGs and adventure games.
