Once a stretcher-bearer for the Last Alliance during their war with Sauron during the Second Age, the man who would become the Hammer of Sauron took up the fallen Sauron's mace, and was corrupted by its power. He became one of Sauron's three Black Captains, representing the Dark Lord's physical might.
