The second Eve, Melissa acquired the first Eve's powers through a kidney transplant(the other, Aya Brea got the first Eve's cornea in a transplant). After the operation, she kept getting ill, so she took some medication, which had made her immune system destroy itself, allowing the first Eve's cells to take effect, thus making her become the second Eve and the villain of the game Parasite Eve.
