Overview
Virtua Athlete 2000 (known outside of North America as Virtua Athlete 2K) is a 3D track-and-field game developed by Hitmaker and published for the Dreamcast by Sega (in Japan on September 27, 2000 and in Europe in 2000) and Agetec (in North America on August 10, 2001).
It is a spiritual successor to the 1995 game Decathlete, allowing players to create and customize their own athlete to participate in seven events of the Decathlon: 100 Meter Dash, Long Jump, Shot Putt, High Jump, 110 Meter Hurdles, Javelin Throw, and 1500 Meter Race.
It was later ported to the arcades (as Virtua Athletics in North America and Europe and as Virtua Athlete in Japan) running Dreamcast-based Sega NAOMI hardware in 2002. It was also bundled with Decathlete and Winter Heat in the Japanese-exclusive 2004 PlayStation 2 compilation Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 15: Decathlete Collection.
