OK, so I'm on the tutorial level, Tremere character, Jack tells me to find the key and unlock the door.
Okay, I open the safe, pic up the key, it's all good.
Except I can't equip it.
And 'using' the door does nothing.
Should I try updating or making a new char or what?

Alright, now I'll read your post. You can't equip keys. Once you get the key, you have to talk to Jack. Simple, I know, but try it. I think that works.

Don't bother with trying to equip it, you can't equip keys. Do you have a previous autosave, prior to that room? If you do, reload it. And when you do:

-Walk in

-Talk to Jack

-Go onto the computer

-Attempt to hack

-Read the note

-Go back to the computer and enter the code

-Open the safe/take the key

-Talk to Jack

-Press "e" on the door.

In that order.

Nope. In my desperation, I created a new character, but I couldn't sit through the fucking cutscenes.

Yeah, I think you just had to talk with him. And the cutscene isn't that long, start and the go fetch a glass of water or something. When you're back it should have started.

I know there'll most likely be a bug when you're somewhat near the end of the game. It involves a little boat, so if your game starts to crash at that point, don't worry, it happens to most people. But there are a bunch of ways to getting around it, so no worries.
