You know me, always happy to fawn over a little release that looks to have some quirk. That’s definitely Gotcha Racing , a game I’ve had my eye on since its quiet debut at E3. It released yesterday on the 3DS eShop for $5.99 and I grabbed it as soon as I got home from work last night. It’s called Gotcha Racing because it’s all about winning new car parts through a gashapon system. But as I woul...

The Last of Us. Clickers. That’s all I need to say for anyone who’s played the game to cringe and/or explode with rage. These Tier 2 enemies have lost all humanity as the infection has blossomed out of their brain to replace their head with a series of fungal fronds. They look gross , sound terrifying as they use guttural clicks to hear their surroundings, and are a one-hit kill if they get up...

It’s that time of year again : time to go over the hundreds of IGF entrants and whittle it down to just twenty that I’m particularly excited about. This year there were 586 entries -- up just a handful from 2012 -- but unlike years past a bunch of my favorites have already been released. Be it a full price release or a frequently updated “beta” many of these games are very much known quantities...

So last week on the site was crazy relevant to all the weird interests I have in gaming. First Brad talks about Rubu Tribe which I asked him about just a few months ago on Twitter. Then they play one of my favorite PS2 games (Fantavision) and on Friday Drew actually showed off the tiny little web game I told him and Patrick about. That's all, just weird how all the things I've off-handedly ment...

Even at the height of my Achievement hunting madness I was never terribly determined to “get them all” on any one game. It was cool if I could but usually there’s at least one multiplayer or time trial type Achievement that I know I’ll just never get. So it surprised even me that I’ve been so determined to “ S Rank ” Kung Fu Rider on PlayStation 3. There’s also something to be said about 100% c...

It seems like I’ve always got Animal Crossing in the back of my mind. Friday night those thoughts collided with an idle hour and my DS that has somehow held its charge through months of neglect. The town of nodnoL had been pretty well developed when I stopped playing the game regularly in 2006 so there wasn’t a lot to do after I loaded it up. Of course my town was full of weeds and the shorelin...

I was looking for something special to be my 20th blog post and I couldn't think of anything more fitting than news of a new Runabout game! I loved the original: imported it on PS1 and helped a fellow player write a way-too-thorough FAQ back in the day. I never did get into Runabout 2 or Super Runabout much (and holy cow, there were like, 2 more games in Japan) but I've always held the series i...

I was going to post this as an actual review but it seems you can't review a game without a domestic release so... to the blogs we go! Dinosaur Hunting has been something of a passion project for me. I was enamored with it as soon as the preview coverage started in 2002 and only grew more excited as it was announced for a U.S. release and subsequently delayed out of existence alongside Western...

E3 2012 is over and while each annual show replaces the last as my least favorite there were still plenty of unexpected surprises and outbursts of joy. Maybe the biggest surprise is how few games there were overall. My feeds didn’t explode and I repeatedly ran out of press releases and uploads to check out at GamesPress. “Bigger games but fewer games” was the motto of the show for me but I’m no...

Ghost Recon Future Soldier is definitely not the first time I’ve seen “cold breath” in a game but it’s been such a long time that the effect really caught me by surprise. Watching Giant Bomb’s Quick Look of the multiplayer beta I kept focusing on the effect after thinking to myself “ wow, I’ll bet that guy’s cold ”. ‘Smell’ and ‘Feel’ are two of the hardest senses to convey in any form of media...

What you say about my game? “ This demo is dumb Shawn lol ” read the message in KakaoTalk from my wife. A real understanding of what Dragon’s Dogma is has been hard for me to come by and this foreboding message was as close to a cut and dry explanation as I’d come. A “Japanese Skyrim” or “another Monster Hunter knockoff” seem to be the most frequent comments but now I’ve played it myself and I...

Every year when the Independent Games Festival rolls around I vow to check out the entrants and winners to find clever and special games to pin my heart to. I usually start to look through the hundreds of entrants but always get sidetracked from the daunting task by whatever retail console games come out at the time. That’s decidedly NOT INDIE ! I stuck with it in 2011, though, and despite chan...

I just finished Fallout: New Vegas last night and amidst the credits was current Obsidian chief, Feargus Urquhart . I'd kinda forgotten about him but since seeing his name I can't stop repeating it in my head. FEAR gus. UUUUUURK -HEART! FIR gus UR- QUART ! I don't know the exact pronunciation but I'm sure if I got it 100% correct I'd summon some kind of Gaelic demi-god. Urquhart... ...Ur-Quan W...

Totally forgot the whole purpose of adding games to the wiki to add to this list was so I could post this image which is what started the whole damn thing in the first place. BAH! Anyways, for posterity's sake, it's updated now: Well what the hell, might as well post it here too and since PixelPrinny also made a version of it! My ABC's of Gaming As started on Nerds on the Rocks by BreakABone (w...

F I N A L L Y ! That is by far the lowest '# to finish' I've ever gotten! Thank you all that helped me get there.

I may have been #3,334 to finish that Mustachioed quest set (because I've been out of town and stuck at work) but it was a record breaking time for how fast I finished it! Not more than 5 minutes; sure it wasn't terribly hard but I still feel pretty good about it!

That's pretty damn fast for me! And I only had to hit the forums for a few! That's also good (and surprising) because it was a crazy week at work and I didn't think I'd even get to keep up.

I was that little Capybara (presumed courtesy of Capybara Games) for the majority of the spring and summer this year and it's been time for a change for a while. I just couldn't find anything I liked until I played the demo of Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom . I'm not really very excited about the game but that Majin (dunce U.S. voice acting excluded) is just awesome! So here I am, all Majin'd o...

YES! So happy Greenvale was one of those trivia answers ;) Thanks guys. EDIT: Oh, AND The Raincoat Killer! Ultra Thanks!!

Here’s a spooky coincidence that involves some equally spooky games. Watching the news pour in during the recently concluded Tokyo Game Show I couldn’t help but notice how many new titles revolved around dark, ghostly or otherworldly themes. I dug up a list of every game that had a presence at the show and although these “scary games” only represent a very tiny minority I was still surprised by...

So this ' White Powder, Blue Earth ' Quest was kinda crummy. My picks were: Jonny Moseley Mad Trix SSX 3 Shaun White Snowbarding Cool Boarders Alpine Surfer But only two or three of them were tagged for the Quest! C'mon, you can't ask me to name snow-based extreme sports games out of all the video games ever made and then only tap a dozen of the most recent ones to count. Even the gang's "belov...

Wow, that title didn't go so well but neither is this latest round of title transfers, Gamertag recovery and Download History spelunking. Yup, we got the new slim 360 or "New Xbox 360" as I guess it's called and nothing but the barest of hard drive content has made the leap from old to new without a problem. Microsoft's title transfer page directs to a wonderful "Page requested not available" d...

Yeah! That's the guy! Maybe a little confusing by the subject line but I doubt anyone will read this anyways. Riding around the newly-unlocked Great Plains in Red Dead Redemption I stopped by a remote campsite to listen to a random guy tell a tale of the west. Lo and behold he mentioned a name or two that immediately sounded familiar including Red Harlow , the very same Red from, you guessed it...

PlayStation 2 Box Art I had only ever seen Asterix & Obelix in passing while poring over the International News pages of EGM and GameFan when I was growing up but the odd visage of the vikings always stuck with me. Over a decade later I saw the duo again in a quarter-page preview for XXL2 in PLAY magazine and was blown away by what looked like F.L.U.D.D.-equipped Marios and limbless Rayman legi...

BAH! How could there be no page for the TurboDUO on Giant Bomb!?! Yes, I'm reacting instantaneously without doing a whole ton of searching but isn't that the point of a search engine? To do that work for me and just tell me if it's in here!?! Ok, I'm not really that passionate about it, I just don't see it anywhere on the site (all CD games point to the TGCD) and it deserves to be here, even as...
